R&R
The area has a variety of shops, including the brilliant International Supermarket that has every sort of food you could want (including warm fresh bread) as does the famous Walthamstow market (the longest in Europe). Good restaurants include the Windmill (Portuguese tapas) and Urfa ( delicious Turkish food). The Chequers pub on the High Street is a trendy spot to enjoy a selection of artisan beers and food. Further up the High Street you'll find the 9 screen Empire cinema and a variety of restaurants, including; Pizza Express, Turtle Bay, Nandos and soon Grillstock and Yum Yum. When you've seen enough of all the sites in Central London, the marshes are a great spot in which to relax (the cafe in Springfield Park does a great breakfast and sits on a hill overlooking the marshes and River Lea). You can go kayaking on the River Lea on Saturday mornings at 9:30 for £10 and there's also horse riding available in the marshes and an ice rink. There are also a couple of good pubs on the river with a selection of ales and good food. There's a lovely walk along the River Lea/canal via the Olympic Park and the more adventurous can walk to the River Thames.

ArtFund Museum of the Year 2013, the William Morris Gallery in Walthamstow is a must see as is the Vestry House Museum and C12 church in Walthamstow village. Free live Jazz at the Nags Head and the Bell pubs on Sundays is also a must! There are also a number of great restaurants in Walthamstow village where you can also buy the famous Eat17 bacon jam.

Interaction with Guests

I have family who live on the same street and they or I will mostly be on hand but will leave you to your privacy if you so wish. There's a key safe if I'm not available to welcome you and an information pack.

The Neighbourhood

A great quiet area to retreat to after a busy day in central London. The area has a number of coffee shops along the High Street and Cafe 56 along St James St, 3 minutes walk away, offers award winning coffee from Nude Espresso. The Chequers pub 5 minutes walk up the High Street is a trendy pub for artisan beers and grub. At the top of the High Street is a 9 screen cinema; Pizza Express, Yum Yum - a Thai restaurant, Turtle Bay - a Carribean restaurant and Grillstock, a BBQ meat joint that's well reviewed. The village and all it's vibrant restaurants and bars is a 5 minute taxi ride away £4 and the cocktail bars and excitement of Shoreditch and Old Street is a 13 minute Overground journey away from St James Street station (3 minutes walk from flat). Upper Street is 15 minutes away on the Victoria Line (alight at Highbury and Islington). If you want to escape a little, then the Marshes are very near by - I go there daily with my dog and it's a stunning spot to walk around, along the river. All in all, a great area to explore as a base for central London and very well connected!
