The area has a variety of shops, including the brilliant International Supermarket that has every sort of food you could want (including warm fresh bread) as does the famous Walthamstow market (the longest in Europe). Good restaurants include the Windmill (Portuguese tapas) and Urfa ( delicious Turkish food). The Chequers pub on the High Street is a trendy spot to enjoy a selection of artisan beers and food. Further up the High Street you'll find the 9 screen Empire cinema and a variety of restaurants, including; Pizza Express, Turtle Bay, Nandos and soon Grillstock and Yum Yum. When you've seen enough of all the sites in Central London, the marshes are a great spot in which to relax (the cafe in Springfield Park does a great breakfast and sits on a hill overlooking the marshes and River Lea). You can go kayaking on the River Lea on Saturday mornings at 9:30 for £10 and there's also horse riding available in the marshes and an ice rink. There are also a couple of good pubs on the river with a selection of ales and good food. There's a lovely walk along the River Lea/canal via the Olympic Park and the more adventurous can walk to the River Thames.
ArtFund Museum of the Year 2013, the William Morris Gallery in Walthamstow is a must see as is the Vestry House Museum and C12 church in Walthamstow village. Free live Jazz at the Nags Head and the Bell pubs on Sundays is also a must! There are also a number of great restaurants in Walthamstow village where you can also buy the famous Eat17 bacon jam.

Olly was a great host and we enjoyed our stay at his flat! He was always quick to answer questions and was very kind to accommodate our early arrival and late check out which we greatly appreciated! The flat is comparable to a boutique hotel - it is stylish and Olly has thought of all the little details that make a place special which is exactly what we were looking for!
We were a family traveling with an 11 and 13 year old so we had very full days of sightseeing and often returned home late at night. Access to the train, tube, or bus is pretty easy once you get the hang of it (we preferred taking the overground train from St. James street which is about a 5 min. walk from the flat instead of a 10 min. walk to Blackhorse Rd Tube Station). It is about a 30 minute journey all in from city center to the flat which is in zone 3. The stores in the neighborhood close early and at the moment there are very limited restaurant options after 9pm so don't plan on late night dining.
Olly's flat is lovely, perfectly equipped even down to excellent fresh coffee. Online pictures are entirely accurate, the street is quiet and I would recommend this to anyone looking for high quality accomodation outside central London. We love Walthamstow and had a reason for staying there but links into London are really easy.
Olly is a generous and accommodating host.
The apartment was fashionably furnished and very clean. The area isn't the best, its right next to Walthamstow, so it's not central, however there are good transport links nearby. The host was great and was attentive and very welcoming. Overall it was a good experience and for anyone looking to spend a few days in London, its a good base to do that from.
Really pleased you had a good stay and thanks for the feedback on the location. The flat is right in the centre of Walthamstow and having lived all over London I have to say it's one of my favourite parts - 18 minutes direct to central London on the tube and 13 minutes to the city and then the marshes and Epping Forest nearby. It's a lovely friendly community and fast becoming one of the fashionable, creative areas of London.
When we arrived the kitchen was well stocked with goodies such as home made jam, milk, bread, butter, coffee, tea & cereal.
The apartment was as described and we were very pleased with the tasteful decor...beautiful kitchen.
It was handy to the shops and transport was good by train or a bit further to the tube. Didn't take too long to. Reach central London.
Comfortable and cozy place, very clean upon arrival. It feels more home-like than the pictures, but that's not a bad thing at all, especially when you want to stay like a local. The beds were comfy and we appreciated the complimentary chocolates the host left for us in each room. Another highlight was the earl grey tea we were able to make every morning that was a great start to our day. During our stay, we needed a couple of extra towels, and Olly delivered them to the flat immediately. When we had questions about the airport and other things unrelated to our Airbnb, he was still extremely helpful and responsive. The flat was very close to a rail station (St. James) which made it very easy to travel into the heart of London (5 minutes walk, approx. 5 stops). Just make sure when you enter the building to unlock the second door, you unlock the door on the left, not the one on the right as you'll be trying to enter the neighbor's place on accident! Overall, we had a pleasant stay and would recommend it!
Staying at Olly's place was wonderful! Very comfortable and clean, great location, and Olly was very kind to leave some food essentials in the kitchen, and also to re-work the key exchange last-minute when our plans changed. We had a great stay. Highly recommend!
