About this listing

Welcome to Podpadi. When we decided to build this, we made sure the surroundings complement the space where nature is respected & encompassed by productive rice-fields & charming local villages, PodPadi has an ideal secluded sanctuary for families, couples or small groups of peaceful ambience seekers. Most importantly, it had to be functional, secure, sustainable & comfortable. Simplicity is key in this development and it had to boost the local community and assist the people living in the area.

The space

My wife and I build this home in over the course of 1 year and we decided to call it Podpadi, because of its peaceful paddy field surroundings.

Upon entering, the walkway leads through a lounge bordered with greens. Featuring a swimming pool, sun deck, open living environment, fully equipped kitchen, bathroom, fiber optic wifi and air-conditioned bedrooms. Its a tastefully minimalist modern designed 2 bedroom private villa, built with a touch of classic-modern identity and an eclectic sense of taste. The peculiar yet effective space makes it a very interesting place for both work and leisure.

Guest access

Guest will have full access to the entire property, except for the storage room, which is beside the lounge area.

Interaction with guests

Mella who speaks a little english will be seeing you through check-in till check-out. Her english is not outstanding but she's definitely improving day by day just by interacting with guest.

She would be able to let you in on everything you need to know while traveling in Ubud and her surroundings, cultures and local slangs. If you like to have breakfast prepared, let her know a day advance, she'll be more than happy to prepare it for you for a small fee.

And there is Pak Nyoman, Mella's Dad who takes care of the gardening, pool and security during the day and wee hours of the nights to make sure the place is secured.

And lastly we have Mella's Mom ;) who takes care of the cleanliness of the rooms and surroundings of the villa.

Should you have issues communicating with them, I'm more than happy to assist but I´m very certain they will go the extra mile to make your stay comfortable.

This is one way we give back to our local community through creating job opportunities, teaching and social skill development.

Interaction with staff depend on guest request:

Daily cleaning service 10am or 2pm
Daily pool/garden in the mornings 8am / 10am or 4pm
Daily security every 4 to 5 hours within the villa compound

Other things to note

We're about 30 meters 2 minutes walk from the main street, located in the rice fields therefore not accessible by car but a motorcycle.

We're discoverable through Waze or Goog maps at Podpadi Design Spaces. The map location is just an indication to the main road leading to Podpadi.

Upon arrival, Mella and her family will assist you with your luggages.

Podpadi is such a surprising and unique travel experience. A perfectly maintained modern oasis among the rice fields. Mela and her family were utterly delightful and welcoming. Our children LOVED being invited to see how she and her family live and the highlight of our (rather long) stay in Bali was being invited to make and fly kites with her entire family. Unfortunately, due to our travelling at peak time, our trip into Ubud became a more time consuming commute than we would have liked. Over the course of our 5 days, we did work out ways around this. In any case, we will definitely return.

The villa is very nice and well furnished. 15 minutes motorcycle from the center of Ubud. It's a pity that the swimming pool was not so clean (a lot of leaves inside) and on the terrasse there were dog tracks everywhere. Mella was very nice but unfortunately she doesn't speak so good english, so it was difficult to let us understand. We unfortunately broke a plastic toilet seat and they asked us 40$ for it, so we asked them to go throught AirBNB platform to solve it, where they asked us 25$ (I still think this is very expensive, in Europe it's just 10€). Mella also entered every day in the villa, to clean, to control and to ask us something, without ringing or knocking on the door...we found it to invasive.

Response from Mervin:
We acknowledge your feedback and this helps us identify what we need to improve. I have to apologize at my end, that the reason why Mella comes once a day in the mornings was my request. We hope you’d understand that our villa is situated in a forest and a quiet part of local village in Ubud. As a host our main intention is to make sure our guest request is fulfilled and taken cared of for the day should they need assistance in cleaning the villa, tours, transport or even food delivery. In the past, Mella will appear in the villa when requested however we’re faced with different guest needs and requirements all the time therefore i suggested she should at least check in on the guest once a day. In regards to the toilet seat. As mention earlier in our conversation i was amazed myself to find out that the original seat cover cost $70 where i live in Malaysia. We have no intention of marking up and even suggested that you accompany Mella to purchase it from a local store nearby however your won’t agreeable and insisted we solve this through Airbnb. We only wish to find a solution therefore decided to purchase a cheaper quality replacement from a third party manufacturer for $25 with an official receipt of purchase provided through Airbnb. I hope you agree, we can’t compare prices of items purchase in our country and hope for it to be the same here. Some items could be cheaper in France and could be extremely expensive in others. Every country has different import duties etc. Most importantly we’re glad to hear you enjoyed your overall stay with us. Thanks

Fabulous villa with good facilities. Better to hire a motorbike as walk to Ubud is around 1 hour. Although you can always walk in and get a taxi home! Get ready for lots of roosters crowing from 5am but this all makes for part of the Ubud experience.

Love this place! I know Bali well and I've stayed in a lot of places here, this was the perfect retreat, a short drive away from Ubud town but removed enough to not hear traffic - the only sounds are frogs, crickets and birds. An amazing luxury to wake up to. The place is well designed, had everything we needed and the caretakers are extremely helpful and accommodating. An awesome place if you're looking for a modern place to stay, Bali style layout and a rural rice paddy feel. Mervin is super responsive and easy to communicate with as well.

Fantastic location! Secluded with a view of the rice paddies and the sounds of nature, it is also quite close to the Ubud town center for convenience. Given that everything in Ubud closes rather early, this villa provides a fantastic sanctuary to enjoy the company of your friends during the evenings. Love the design of the place too! Mervin has really put some thought into everything that goes into the villa. Will visit again!

The villa was absolutely beautiful. Set next to some rice fields, with a huge pool, kitchen and large bedrooms. Mervin was extremely helpful, Mella and her sister were so kind and made a lovely breakfast, and Kris the driver was a true gent. We loved it that much we are returning next week before we leave Bali. Thanks Mervin!

A husband and father of 1 who loves to travel, enjoys good food and cycling. Traveling with a family now means looking for a holiday home away from home. As a host, I hope to create a comfortable and enjoyable stay experience that will bring back good memories for years to come.
