Room in a home

Your own room in a home, plus access to shared spaces.
I have a semi-detached house which is situated to the south of Kendal market town and only a short 10-15 minute walk from the town centre on a quiet road. There is easy on road parking and off road parking. It is accessible from the bypass off the M6 without having to go through town. Kendal has a good variety of restaurants and is a great base for walkers or touring the Lake District. Your room with king size double bed with a good memory foam mattress is private, light and airy.

The space
Your room with king size double bed with a good memory foam topping mattress is private, light and airy. It overlooks a quiet road with distant view of hills behind Kendal. The bathroom is just across the landing from your room. It has a good built in shower and a small bath. This is shared only with the owner.

Guest access
You have access to all rooms apart from my bedroom. You may use the breakfast/kitchen for making coffee/tea making, general sitting space with view of garden. You may bring food in to eat of course and use the fridge, but no cooking. I provide a simple self- made breakfast with a choice of cereals, muesli, porridge, toast, marmalade or you can bring your own. I provide semi skimmed milk. There is a good size table dining table for use at breakfast.
French windows lead out to the back garden and patio which you may use if the weather if good. The sitting room is also at your disposal, although shared with the owner. Wi-fi is also available. You may use the sitting room TV if I am not using it or watch with me if you like. I have freesat and free view.
You will have your own set of keys so you can come and go as you please. There is ample bike storage in the rear garden shed if you are travelling by bike. (this is not locked but safe}.

During your stay
When I am at home I am always glad to help with queries wherever possible. If I am not at home I may be contacted by mobile if necessary. There will be times when I am away for a few days so you will have the house to yourselves but please remember if you need to speak to me I am always at the other end of a phone. Your comfort and enjoyment is most important to me while you spend your days away from home. And I look forward to seeing guests return again and again.
I am happy to give suggestions for walks, drives or places of interest. I am an ecologist and photographer and would be happy to take you for guided walks for a small fee.

Other things to note
Parking is easily available at my house. You may use the garden.
I have a cat called Sasha so cannot accommodate other animals I’m afraid. She is old and frail so I have a cat litter tray in breakfast room. If your have allergies or are not happy with internal tray then please look elsewhere.
I need guests to have Govt ID listed (passport/driving licence etc) and not just email and phone. This is for my safety.
I do not allow cooking but there are plenty of eating places nearby in Kendal.
Please restrict showers to before 10.30 pm as bathroom next to my bedroom.

Neighbourhood highlights

Kendal is a really lovely market town with market days on Wednesday and Saturdays and a Farmer's Market once a month. It is a historic town with remains of a castle on a hill which is easily accessible.
Kendal is commonly known as the "Gateway to the Lakes" and is the ideal place to explore the Lake District with the convenience of all Kendal has to offer.
Where I live is quiet but still only a ten to fifteen-minute walk to the town centre (partly along the river kent if you wanted) where there are many coffee shops and restaurants – all the usual varities including Thai, Indian, French, pizza etc. There are many pubs and the fantastic Brewery Arts Centre which has theatre, films, comedy shows and all types of music. It also has a bar and good pizza restaurant. There all the usual shops too – Marks and Spencers, TK max, Waterstones etc.
If you don’t fancy going into town there is a good pub at the end of my road (but no noise or nuisance) called Romneys. This has a good carvery if you are around during the day. Kendal is well placed to explore the southern Lakes in particular. There are iconic places such as Windermere, Ambleside, Grasmere and Coniston all within easy reach. There is also the often overlooked Silverdale AONB area just to the south and Morecambe Bay with fabulous views and walks for all aptitudes. The western Dales with Ingleborough are close too.
About 5 minutes drive away is the fantastic Scout scar which has great views over the Lyth valley and also is floristically rich as it is a limestone scar.

We have the River Kent close at hand, Kendal Castle and Kendal Museum. Kendal museum situated opposite Kendal Train station is free to visit and a great way to learn a little more about Kendal. There is also a leisure centre within 10 minutes’ walk or 2 minutes in the car.
