Escape to our creative organic retreat for nature lovers, in the magical untouched Klein Karoo, easily accessible from Route62 and the N2. The Studio Flat is comfortable, modern and open plan with private outdoor seating and sleeps two comfortably.

The space

The Place is situated in the Klein Karoo wilderness between Ladismith and Riversdale, at the end of a private road in a beautiful secluded valley. Both our units are completely private, with each situated in it’s own unique setting in our valley.

The Studio Flat is all about views of the vlaktes and koppies, Touwsriver valley, surrounding mountain ranges and breathtaking sunsets. It is fully equipped with hot water, electricity, and cell phone reception. A wood burning stove keeps winter nights cozy. The space is open plan with one double bed, fully equipped kitchen, dining area and sofa. The sofa can accommodate a small child - please inquire. The private bathroom has a hot shower and toilet. Glazed patio doors give access to a shaded outdoor seating area and braai.

Both the Studio Flat and Red Rock Cottage (please see our other listing for Red Rock Cottage @ The Place) are fully equipped for self-catering. Freshly baked bread, farm eggs from our 100-percent free-range chickens and any other organic farm or locally produced fresh produce can be purchased when available.

Things to do include exploring the amazing variety of landscape features on the farm – the magical mini-valleys, dry river beds, fossils and strange succulents that make our landscape so unique. Here you can bird watch and star gaze to your heart's content.

Guest access

Guests have full access to our 100 hectare farm with it's beautiful varied landscape.

Stayed at The Place's Studio for my birthday and enjoyed every minute, even though it rained for most of our second day here. The studio is gorgeous and cozy, so it was actually nice to spend the day in bed and listening to the rain outside. We nonetheless got some hiking done the following morning and that was the highlight of our stay. Only wished we had booked more days.

Perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of city life, a very peaceful spot in the heart of the mountains and the most warm and friendly hosts, with such attention to detail, down to a hand written welcome letter! Wish we could've stayed longer.

Another unbelievable stop on our trip. Lizelle is a great host and The Place is idyllic for a stay away from it all and with all the comforts of home. Make sure you catch both the sunset and sunrise, it topped an unforgettable stay for us. Beautiful experience, thanks Lizelle!

We enjoyed our stay - beautiful scenery and very peaceful. We witnessed an incredible electric storm. Lizelle is very welcoming and her bread is delicious. The only negatives were the trouble I had getting cellphone reception, and the lack of soap and shampoo. Also check the weather in advance - we were there in a heat wave so be sure to pack books and games / movies on your laptop, because it's too hot to go outside.

This place is magic and was excactly what I had hoped to experience in the Little Karoo - a peaceful, quiet, relaxing place in the semi-desert. We walked around on our own and saw many stars at night. So beautiful!
