Welcome to The Dungeon at McIntosh Castle—a playful, luxury lower-level suite in a restored 1852 limestone castle in downtown Kingston. Bright, warm, and impeccably dry, it features radiant in-floor heating, air conditioning, large windows, premium appliances, two stylish bedrooms, and 2 imaginative bathrooms. Walk to City Park, the waterfront, Queen’s University, Market Square, dining, and nightlife. Fantasy name—five-star comfort.
The space
The Dungeon at McIntosh Castle offers approximately 1,250 sq. ft. of bright, luxurious, and playfully themed living space. The open-concept main area includes a fully equipped kitchen, a dining island for five, and a spacious lounge with an 76” flatscreen TV and plush seating—all styled with a whimsical “dungeon” flair.
The primary bedroom features a queen bed, exposed stone fireplace, two large windows, an historic writing desk, a reading nook, and a generous closet. Its three-piece bath with custom glass walk-in shower also serves as a powder room. The second bedroom offers 2 twin beds, dramatic stone walls, three windows, and a fantasy-inspired ensuite bath with nods to Tolkien and the Elves.
A private laundry area with brand-new machines adds convenience. Once the castle’s servant quarters and kitchen, this lower level has been transformed into a warm, cheerful, and imaginative retreat—where historic stone meets modern comfort and a touch of Disney-style magic.
Guest access
“The Dungeon at McIntosh Castle” is a private, lower-level suite with its own private entrance from West Street. Guests enjoy dedicated access to the basement suite; the castle courtyard and upper floors are reserved for other visitors. Directly across the street is City Park, and the waterfront is just a short walk away. Set in historic Sydenham Ward, you’ll find plenty to explore right outside your door.
Other things to note
Thoughtful Acoustic Design in an Historic Home
The Dungeon at McIntosh Castle has been thoughtfully designed as a private and comfortable lower-level suite. Extensive sound-deadening measures have been incorporated to help separate it from the living space above, creating a quiet and relaxing environment for guests.
As with most lower-level accommodations, you may occasionally notice some muted, low-frequency sounds from above, such as footsteps. Voices and higher-frequency noises are generally not heard.
We’ve invested significantly in modern sound-reduction construction to minimize any disturbance, and most guests find the space to be peaceful, cozy, and unique.
