Less than a block from the city bus line, our garage apartment is vintage with an urban feel.
Hi-speed internet with 1 GIG of connectivity! The cottagecomfortably fits two and is within walking distance to many South Lamar bars and restaurants and Zilker. Outdoor deck and offstreet parking too.

The space

This 1940's garage apartment is located in the heart of South Austin's Zilker neighborhood.

The apartment is full of light. Hardwood floors and doublehung windows are restored but original. The living dining area faces east, and gets great morning sun. It has one bedroom and a bathroom with shower, a full kitchen with a refrigerator, stove and work table so you can cook while you visit (although who wants to when there is so much great food nearby?)

The bathroom is fully remodeled, but the kitchen is vintage, with NO dishwasher. Relive the 1940's and wash those dishes by hand. It has air conditioning and heat, and a screen door to enjoy the outside on good days.

If you need more space, the house that is on the property can also be rented, check vacation rental by owner for info.

Guest access

The house has flat screen TV, a stereo, and wifi. There is off street parking. If the garden is producing, you can help yourself to tomatoes and veggies!

Interaction with guests

We try to meet our guests upon check-in.
We live nearby and are happy to help with any questions, recommendations, etc. but otherwise we'll leave you alone!

Other things to note

This cottage has a really good vibe. I sometimes just go over there to read and hang out. There's something about being "up" at tree level that lends a new perspective - try it!

This made for a great stay in Austin for five nights. South Lamar is a wonderful location and is not far from downtown, Zilker Park, SoCo, etc. There are a number of restaurants within walking distance of the house for those that get driving fatigue. Rebecca has put together a binder full of great suggestions on things to do and where to eat, so be sure to read through that. Thanks for a great stay!

A awesome spot right off a main artery into Austin. A nice spot to run into the park and just a cheap Uber or Ride|Austin into the city. The hosts are excellent at responding. Great place would most definitely stay again when visiting Austin.

Response from Rebecca:
Thanks, Derek! Any guest who leaves us their local chocolate and a great note is welcome back X10! You guys rock, and the chocolate is already just about gone!

What is not to like? The apartment exceeded our expectations. It was very, clean, exactly as represented and close to everything we wanted to do. The air conditioners worked beautifully. There is some construction going on across the street but we stayed over a weekend so the noise was not a problem. Rebecca was easy to communicate with and responded in a timely way. Our only regret is that we had to leave.

I was not able to actually stay at Rebecca's place and had to do a last minute cancellation thanks to Hurricane Harvey. Rebecca was honest and quick to communicate when we asked about cancelling due to the hurricane. Definitely plan on staying at her adorable place when I travel to Austin one day!

Response from Rebecca:
Jessie, so sorry the hurricane disrupted your trip! We sure hope you try again! Austin is waiting!

Great location and price with vintage charm. We could easily walk or take public transportation and found some great spots. However, we didn't anticipate the constant construction sounds across the street and the traffic noise, but that likely comes with the territory when you're near a hip neighborhood and in an older space where the windows don't completely seal. Sadly, we both woke up with bug bites and found some in the bed -- hopefully a good exterminator can fix that, though.

Response from Rebecca:
Thanks for the feedback, Bryn. There is construction on a new property across the street, luckily they don't work on weekends when most of our guests are staying. I am sorry that the noise was bothersome! Note that while we searched and looked, we could not find any bugs, we did engage an exterminator to ensure all is taken care of. This time of year is buggy in Texas!

We are a couple from Austin, Texas, one a native Austinite and the other a transplant but after 30+ years here....... We travel a lot to Belize, but also love the US and Europe. We especially love sharing our two favorite places in the world, Caye Caulker, Belize and Austin, Texas with our guests; it's funny, but both are really interesting fun cities with lots to do and share the trait of having tons of creative, friendly people. We think that by listing our properties on AirBnB at a competitive but fair rate will hopefully allow others to travel - we think that by traveling we learn to better see ourselves and thus can better know others and understand how we can interact for the common good.

Check out our other Austin short term rental, #402379 on vacation rental by owner if you want more room than our Bluebonnet Cottage on AirBnB and stay with us in this or the other if you are ever in Austin!
