Myoko, Niigata Prefecture, Japan

Myoko Kogen has some of the best skiing and biggest snowfalls of anywhere in the world. Yet, this little village somehow manages to maintain it's countryside feel and intimate vibe. In the winter this town comes alive, the main street of Akakura's restaurants, bars and shops provide everything you need for a perfect ski getaway.
Our house is located in a quiet neighbourhood just one street below the main street and ski lifts. Just a short 2 minute walk will take you to the main road where all bars and restaurants are situated as well Myoko Snowsports which is great to rent your gear from.
Shuttle buses to other ski resorts are only 5 minutes walk located on the parking lot next to the post office and the only ATM in town.
The closer ski lifts are Akakura Onsen/Kanko which are 5 minutes walk away from our door step.

We are Jen and Matt, from Alaska and Reunion Island, and somehow we met halfway between the two in Indonesia, where we have made our home for the past decade. We still live to travel, Indonesia & Japan but also destinations farther abroad. We love it here and hope that you will enjoy this country as much as we do!
