I had a really great time in Cozumel. Francisco’s apartment is where you want to go when you want to spend some time away from the trouble of a city. It’s located on a small farm down south from San Miguel de Cozumel. The family who lives there in the main house, plants various fruits and veggies and they also have small animals like roosters, chicken and peacocks. In case you are a light sleeper, you should be prepared to be woken up by the roosters early in the morning. This was quite a different experience, but in a good way. I have never heard so many different birds in my life – pure nature.
The apartment was as described, simply furnished but clean and with everything you need in case you want to cook or make breakfast on your own. Fresh towels and linen were also provided. It is a little secluded if you are planning on spending most of the time Downtown, but a perfect start point if you want go to beach clubs. There are a couple of those in walking distance, the Chankanaab Beach Adventure Park for example is right across the street. This was also very convenient when I wanted to grab a taxi. Anyway, I felt the easiest way to get around in Cozumel was by Scooter. The rental fees are not high and since Cozumel is a small island, you can easily drive around the island and stop at various beach clubs or other points of interest.
Unfortunately I didn’t have the chance to meet Francisco personally, but our communication in advance was impeccable and he made sure that someone of his family was there for the Check-In. Everyone I met on the property was very friendly and welcoming, I was also offered to taste the fresh fruit and vegetables as well as fresh eggs for breakfast. True to the motto: Mi casa es su casa!
