Maile's cottage is awesome and unique! You will live half inside, half outside, which represents, for someone coming from Canada, an authentic Hawaiian experience and the perfect getaway. I definitely recommend this place if you are nature lover!

Maile's cottage is located up high in the mountain with a gorgeous view of the ocean. The view and the calm is soothing. The cottage is very complete. It had everything that you might need on a trip. Very easy to communicate with and has great tips on the best places to go. We enjoyed staying with Maile very much!

A true slice of Heaven! One of the most beautiful areas on the Island and the property had one of the very best views! The cabin's large deck is the place to have breakfast and relax in the morning and at sunset while gazing out to the ocean...and then again at night to take in the incredible stars! Maile was a very responsive, diligent host. I felt very lucky to have the opportunity to stay in such a beautiful spot on a private family's property.

Lovely, cozy cottage in a very quiet and unique part of the Big Island. Beautiful views from the lanai and just a short drive to great beaches. Maile was a wonderful host - great directions, clean space, and well-stocked kitchen (she even brought the BBQ out back for us!) It was a bit rainy and chilly while we were there, but the space heater kept the cottage warm. The bathroom and shower are partially outside, so that was the only part of the cottage that was somewhat cold - we loved the concept and didn't mind, but something to think about before you book. Which you should! I definitely recommend staying here, and would again.

This place is amazing. A little cabin perched in the trees with the most incredible view of the west coast. Truly indescribable! We were lucky enough to catch an insane sunset the one night we stayed. Communication and directions were very clear and our hosts were very friendly. Would love to come back.

Let me start by saying that drive on Kohala Mountain Road on the way to Maile's cottage has some of the best views on the island. There was always something new each time we drove it. The cottage itself is well-stocked with kitchen basics, tons of toiletries, and beach gear on the back deck of Maile's house. It's quaint and charming with cute little quirks like the outdoor sink (these are the little things we love about staying at Airbnbs). The bed was comfortable and we enjoyed the open-air shower and large deck which was perfect for stargazing. On a clear moonless night you can see the Milky Way! While the cottage is just behind Maile's family home, it is set high enough back and above to feel very private. The winds can be strong, and it was particularly so on our first night. Personally I didn't mind as the howling winds reminded me of how far I was from any metropolis. It was oddly soothing. Perhaps not for everyone though, so do take note. Maile was such a wonderful host with great aloha spirit, and we felt so welcome even though we only ran into her twice. She had excellent recommendations and provided very detailed information before check-in. There's lots to see and do nearby away from the touristy hustle of Kona. Her property sits on a beautiful landscape with amazing views. We felt lucky to have been guests at this private family acreage. On our very first night, we walked along the path just a short walk from the cottage and sat on a patch of grass to enjoy a beautiful sunset where my partner of 12 years finally proposed! Needless to say this place will always hold aspect all place in our hearts.
