Rent this two bedroom one bath home on a private road at the base of Lucky Jim Bluff in the picturesque Methow Valley of Washington State. Just a few miles east of the Mazama junction, this architectually unique 1500 sq. ft. home sits on 7 secluded acres. No pets please

The space

In the Winter, guests at Lucky Jim will have access to the nations largest cross-country ski area. The Methow Valley Sports Trails Association (MVSTA) has developed and maintains hundreds of kilometers of groomed nordic ski trails throughout the Methow Valley. You can literally ski out the door of the cabin and connect to the MVSTA trails. You can take a short ski (about 3.5 miles) to the northwest and stop for a hot bowl of soup and espresso at the Mazama Store. Head in the opposite direction and you are less than 1/2 mile to Wesola Polana (the Rolling Huts) and Kellys restaurant.

In the warmer months, you have miles and mile of hiking, swimming, river rafting, horseback riding, mountain and rock climbing and mountain biking right at your door.

With advance notice I can help you book guides or help plan your activities based on your particular interest.

This area is teeming with wildlife. Two species of deer, black bear, cougar, coyotes, rabbits, weasels, mink, marten, marmots, wild turkeys and many more have been seen while lounging in a chair on the front deck.

Guest access

Guests will have control of the whole house. This is my residence as well. Please respect my privacy by staying out of my workshop & sheds unless I have given you prior approval to do so. There are many dangerous tools & hazardous items especially for unsupervised children.

Interaction with guests

Sometimes I'm in the local area and can stop by to answer questions. I am always available by phone and provide assistance or arrange for help when needed.

Other things to note

I do not have internet access at this time but many of the stores and coffee shops in Winthrop offer WiFi. Verizon cell service is pretty good in Mazama so if your carrier is Verizon, you can often use your phone or Ipad as a hotspot.

This may have been my favorite Airbnb, and I’ve stayed at many. The house itself is great – I really loved the way it’s laid out and decorated (and I don’t usually care about that sort of thing). The first thing I said upon seeing it was that I want my house to look like this. The best part about this house, though, is the location. Right up against the national forest – woods to walk around in right in the back yard. From the huge front porch we saw all kinds of wildlife against the view of the mountains. Really beautiful area. The North Cascades complex is right up the road. Can’t recommend the place enough!

Lucky Jim's Hideaway was as advertised and was very well stock with amenities. Check-in and check-out where extremely easy and the place was clean. I would 100% rent this place again.

Response from Harry:
David, thanks for the positive feedback. The internet issue is a tough one right now for my part of the Valley. Centurylink (the local phone co.) will not add any new customers because they have already far exceeded the capacity of their system and people who have it are not happy with the service. Spotty at best and very low speed. I am looking into satellite service but that presents its own set of issues. Thanks again! you guys were great guests.

This is a lovely home in Mazama. Quite comfortable and well outfitted with everything you could possibly need. It was also very clean. It is close to many outdoor activities for summer and winter recreation. I recommend it highly to anyone who would like to unplug and relax in a natural and comfortable setting.

Harry's place is really lovely. The big windows and glass doors let in tons of sun and offer a lovely view of the field and trees. The deck is absolutely wonderful for sitting out in the early morning and just enjoying the birds and deer and sunshine and peacefulness. The kitchen is very well stocked with utensils and pans and spices which made cooking there very easy. Overall a very nice stay.

Hannah, I am so sorry that I missed the review deadline for your stay. I was out in the wilderness without phone or WiFi and I just let it slip by. Anyway you guys were great guests and I would welcome you back anytime. Also I will recommend you as potential guests to any AirBnb Host who might want to contact me. Also thanks for the constructive private feedback concerning my 4 legged friends. I have put additional measures into place. Thanks again for booking with me!

Our stay at Harry's place was great! We enjoyed exploring in and around Winthrop and just sitting on the porch watching the deer. His place was fully stocked with all we needed and he was responsive and great with communication both ahead of our stay and while we were there. The directions in (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) maps took us to the house just up the road from Harry's and as we arrived late and it was dark it was hard to navigate based on the posts at the base of his driveway. Overall it was a great stay and we'd highly recommend!!

Harry's place was lovely. Located across the road from the cross country trails, we were able to walk down and get right on the trails. It is also very close to Kelly's though we didn't go there. We were given plenty of wood for the wood burning stove and the kitchen was well stocked (and a bottle of wine was out for us as well). Kids had games to play and also played in the snow making snow caves. I loved the rustic style of the cabin and can tell that Harry has put a lot of love, care and thought into making it his own.

Sarah thanks for the review and feed back. I am installing a clothes dryer this spring once I get my well situation worked out.

Harry was a great host! Very responsive and pleasant to speak with. The place was convenient and no hassle getting there. The location and view is one of the best I've ever experienced in Airbnb! Great locatio to trails, views, and a quick 5-10min drive to downtown Winthrop. We went in the middle winter and it was the perfect winter get away. Inside the cabin was cozy, spacious, and supplied with everything we needed.

Response from Harry:
Jules. Glad you guys had a good time. I apologize about the soap. I will talk with my housecleaner. She usually leaves a new bar out when she cleans. Thanks for following my instructions about the pump. Hope to see you back at my place.

I am an avid outdoors person who also loves big city adventures. I am fortunate enough to have a job that allows me to split my time between Seattle & Mazama. Things I like: spending time with my "girls", flyfishing, bad cinema, alternative music/radio, taco trucks & real southern BBQ. When I have the opportunity to travel I enjoy trips to Central America.
