Treat yourself to spending your NYC trip or vacation right in the middle of everything. My apartment is located minutes away from so much. Walking distance to - Empire State Building, Times Square, Rockefeller Center, United Nations, 5th Avenue Shops, Grand Central, Penn Station, Madison Square Garden, Shuttle buses from the aiport, and more! It's a big room, with high ceilings, plenty of natural light, tv with cable - and very very quiet.

The space

This listing is for a large sized room in a quiet brownstone apartment in the Murray Hill neighborhood of Manhattan. The brownstone is located on a peaceful, residential block in close proximity to many great landmarks. It is located 3 blocks from the Empire State Building, 10 minute walk to the United Nations, 10 minute walk to Grand Central Terminal, 10 minute walk to Penn Station, 5 min walk to the Chrysler Building, 20 minute walk to Times Square. It's also situated near almost every major subway (4,5,6,N,R,Q,B,F,D,M). From the apartment, it is a quick subway ride to get to Soho, Harlem, Meatpacking, Lower East Side, and several Brooklyn and Queens neighborhoods.

The apartment is located 2 blocks away from a grocery store, a laundromat/cleaner, and many great bars and restaurants. The block itself though is only residential and quiet. It is a walk up apartment, but only 2 flights of stairs. There is also a beautiful view of the Empire State Building from the rooftop. The apartment takes up the entire floor of the building, so there are no neighbors. The room available is on a separate side of the apartment from the other 2 bedrooms. There is one bathroom in the apartment, and a kitchen and living room with cable TV.

I am also a native New Yorker, and happy to help tourists with information and getting around NYC.

Guest access

Guests have access to bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, and living room. Guests have access to wireless internet as well and cable tv.

Other things to note

I look forward to speaking to anyone about the apartment and availability, and hopefully increase your enjoyment of your vacation.

I expect guests to treat my home like they would their own. Common courtesy and decency above all. No messes left in the common areas (kitchen and living room) and for all your belongings to be taken with you upon leaving. I would expect that there are not any loud nights beyond a reasonable hour, and that the apartment be used solely for lodging. There is no smoking or other drug use, alcohol is allowed within reason

The large room in the description is shared by potentially three couples. There are two bedrooms with double beds for two AirBnB guests and a third bedroom for the couple living there permanently (not Eric). This means you can be lucky or unlucky with the other guests. We were lucky with a very nice woman but then the she left before time, because she didn't like it there. The apartment and especially kitchen and bathroom is somewhat more rundown than pictures suggest. Eric himself is genuinely friendly and communicative, but we only met him once and only because the bath was clogged up and a plumber was called. Pro: Middle of Manhattan, good deal, friendly host (though not around). Con: Two AirBnB bedrooms (we didn't get that from the description and neither did the other guest), the couple living there is very reserved. He is not the talkative type albeit friendly enough. She doesn't really acknowledge your existence though, which was odd. This was our first AirBnB so it might be us getting the concept wrong.

Great location and close to many things in Midtown. Eric is a great communicator. It's an older building but room was comfortable. He uses a kecafe to gain entrance and that is an extra step but the keycafe is a very short walk to the apartment.

Great location and comfy bed! Yummy little treats for us on arrival. There are 3 flights of stairs to get up for those with big bags.

Good location, nice room. Note that there is no lift in the building so it's two flights off stairs with any luggage you may have.

I'm a native New Yorker, born and raised here. I work a normal 9 to 5 job and spend most of the week quiet at home. I'm always up for meeting new people and I'm happy to host travelers and introduce them to what makes New York such a great city. In down time, I like to travel as well and watch/play sports.
