Ta Petrina's Zarta is an old stone house which sits half way up the village of Volissos (a 2 min walk to the main square) with a wonderful view to the Aegean Sea from its large terrace. Fully renovated (in 2021) while retaining the feel of a traditional village dwelling, the house is comfortable and well equipped.
You will find Zarta House a peaceful place to spend your holiday in.
ZARTA can also be an ideal retreat for remote workers, digital nomads or writers!

The space
If you are looking for a sterile modern resort hotel room with power showers, TV and the like, then this is not for you.
On the other hand, if you are looking for a charming, 200 year old stone built house with a touch of romance, filled with artefacts, books and memories of the past, then this house just could be it!
Of course the house has wifi, air-conditioning and the essential amenities you need to make your stay enjoyable.

The house is on two levels. The living room/kitchen leads out onto a large private terrace with a stunning view over the village to the Aegean Sea.
The bathroom with shower is also on this level.
The upper floor is a large beautiful room with a comfortable double bed, a fireplace and a desk/workspace. It has a charming small balcony and a separate entrance from a path which winds its way down to the center of the village.
The room has air-conditioning, a fan and the bed has a mosquito net.
The kitchen has a small cooker, fridge, kettle, coffee maker, toaster as well as everything you need to cook at home if you want to.
Bedding and towels, including towels for the beach are supplied.
A baby cot and high chair can be provided.

For longer rentals the price is negotiable.

You can park a car close to the house, free of charge.
From the ZARTA you can easily walk down to the center of the village where you will find a choice of several tavernas, cafes, and shops.

The house is fully licensed by the GTO (Greek Tourist Organisation).

Where you’ll be

Volissos, Egeo, Greece

Volissos is built on a hill nestling underneath a Genoese castle.
It looks south out across the blue waters of the Aegean.
As you sit on your terrace enjoying the mountains slowly turning pink in the last rays of the sun, or as you wander around the village as it winds down from the castle, you quickly realize that Volissos is still very much a traditional village.

It is 2 km from the little harbour and marina of Limnia and the nearest beaches of Lefkathia and Limnos, both of which have a beach bar (the use of the umbrellas and sun loungers are free). Just a little further away is the 6 km long Managros beach, where it is always easy to find a quiet spot to enjoy the crystal clear waters of the Aegean.
Apart from these, whichever way you go up or down the coast, there are numerous beaches to choose from.
Volissos lies on the north west coast of the island of Chios, 40 km from the main town, port and airport.

Volissos has quite a few tavernas, either in the village or down by the sea, offering a wide choice of delicious Greek food as well as a couple of cafe bars.
At the harbour you can enjoy an ouzo as the sun sets on the fishermen returning from putting out their nets.

The village has two mini markets, a butcher, a baker and even a candle maker. A green grocer comes around three times a week selling produce out of the back of his pickup though you can find fruit and vegetables in the two shops.
Also local fishermen come around with the catch of the day.

There is a Pharmacy, Post Office, Police Station and ATM machine.
Volissos has a small clinic with a doctor available 24/7.

CHIOS

The island could almost be two islands, its south and north parts are so different in terms of geography and botany. In the northern half mountains and rocky hills prevail covered with pine woods, cypresses and plane trees, as well as thyme, oregano and sage.
Southern Chios is noted for the mastic tree as well as its many citrus orchards.
Chios as a whole is famous internationally for a wealth of wild flowers, including its lalades (wild tulips) and an extraordinary variety of orchids
(92 species in all).
Hiking or driving to get to know the island, Volissos makes for an excellent base for all your excursions.
The island has a good road network.

As you explore the idyllic medieval walled villages of the mastic south , the Byzantine monasteries and churches, the Genoese mansions of the Kambos (central Chios) or the more rugged unspoiled and traditional north, the rich history of Chios will come alive and draw you under its spell!

On the other hand if you are looking for a relaxing easy going holiday, where you can do as much or as little as you want, Volissos is also an ideal spot.
Choose one of its many beaches to laze in the sun before treating yourself to a delicious freshly cooked meal in one of the lovely tavernas.

Chiots are passionate and live life to the fullest, even at difficult times. The result is an island seemingly riddled with challenges, yet full of people loving life.
Chios is still one of the most unspoiled islands in Greece.
I am sure you will be pleasantly surprised by Chios and the village of Volissos!

I left England over 30 years ago with only my carpentry tools, a set of clothes and my stereo system, not knowing what the future might bring. To make a long story short I ended up in the small but lovely village of Volissos where, with a team of local craftsmen, I started fixing up old dwellings. Combining our skills, techniques and using natural materials we brought the houses alive again and created these stylish and authentic homes. I am still the local carpenter and rent out these houses. I would like to welcome you to Ta Petrina's houses and I hope you will fall in love with them the way I did.
