The space
“Deer and Rose” a suite accommodation for short or long term stays. Perfect for couples, creatives, remote professionals and travellers seeking a slower pace and authentic island experience.
With its private southwest-facing garden including a dedicated parking space for one car. The private parking is the first space before the main house. Enter through a rose-trellised gate into the private garden patio, then step up to a covered outdoor dining and seating area. Sliding doors provide level entry into a welcoming space filled with colourful art.
Inside, you’ll find hooks for coats and a bench for shoes. To the left, a door opens to a spacious bedroom featuring a king bed with comfortable, thoughtfully prepared bedding. Amenities include hot water bottles, luggage racks, cooling fan, blackout blinds, a closet with hangers, and a set of drawers. Bedside wall lights create a cozy atmosphere for reading.
The bright, crisp white bathroom is one step up, with a walk-in new 30” shower, vanity sink, toilet, and hanging hooks. A shelf is stocked with fluffy towels, soaps, shampoo and a hairdryer, first aid kit under the sink.
Opposite the bathroom, a kitchenette includes a microwave, kettle, fridge, vita-mix blender, cutlery, dishes, stocked with tea and coffee basics. A creatively tiled center island with two stools is perfect for morning coffee or tea. Fire Extinguisher and smoke detector in place. No use of stove as per B.C. Gov regulations. Breakfast Food includes; tea, coffee, sugar, butter, granola, bars, yogurt, jam, fruit, cream, cheese. Perrier Water, chocolates. Fresh muffins or scones delivered each morning.
The kitchenette is open plan to dining area with its round table and four chairs, illuminated by a French floret chandelier— ideal space for a light meal, a game of cards or checkers, or beginning your memoir.
The spacious room flows into the living room, offering relaxed seating including a wicker chair draped in faux fur and a checkers table set for play. An eclectic library features books on travel, nature, adventure, art, esoteric topics, novels, and more. Several lamps are placed throughout for comfortable reading, while lumbar pillows and warm fleece throws add to the cozy feel. A full-length Natuzzi red leather sofa with matching ottoman invites you to curl up and enjoy views of the abundant garden and glimpses of the sea through the large picture window. Blinds provide privacy in the evening.
The propane fireplace offers easy, instant heat and a beautiful evening ambiance (maximum 2 hours per evening; please turn off when leaving the room). Electric radiators provide additional warmth in the chilly season.
Throughout the spacious suite are Gallery-style walls displaying fine art by your host, Jill Louise Campbell, inspired by her love of Salt Spring Island—her home for over 35 years. Visit her personal Art Gallery since 1992 in Ganges by the BoardWalk.

Welcome to Deer & Rose your private sanctuary while staying with us!
From designated parking to private rose trellised gated entrance, your space is just for your use while here. A garden patio to pause, sit awhile and view the irises, roses and south west sun then enter into the trellised enclosed sitting area with cedar slatted privacy wall. One step up to covered seating and intimate outdoor dining for two. Furniture is French antique wrought iron with comfy cushions, and low lounging slouch chairs for an afternoon snooze. Enter through the double sliding locking door to the 600+ sq foot “Deer & Rose” retreat suite.
A continental breakfast includes homemade delicious scones or muffins and fresh fruit, yogurt cheese as well coffee and tea included in suite ready for you to brew.
Other things to note
We have three friendly cats! They will visit! Be sure they are outside before you leave to explore the island. Say hi to Raven, Willow and Flower.
Our kitchenette sink drains with the help of a pump. It will gurgle for a second or two after a wash up so no worries about the few second gargling sounds.
Our house has old bones! Over 100 years, it is an original Vesuvius cottage. Please appreciate the unique creeks and sounds of our household including us upstairs. We are quiet but know you are part of a Islanders’s Community. Our neighbours, many who grew up here, raised their kids and most are now retired, love to congregate at the beach to watch the sunset. We appreciate our relaxed quiet vibe.
