We have a dream vacation home ready for your relaxation and enjoyment. We are up in the trees, above it all, toward the very end of a quiet no through street, in town, with winter-time mountain range views from front porch or deck and tree leaves and limbs view the rest of the year.. People describe it as comfortable, warm, inviting, well appointed, serene, uplifting, cheerful, having great flow, feeling wonderful. Our granite counter-top kitchen is fully equipped with many supplies, gadgets, small appliances you probably would not have most places. We have a dishwasher, microwave, coffee maker, juicer, cappuccino/ espresso maker, mixer, toaster, hand blender, etc. We also have a washer and dryer for your use. The living room comfortably seats 7 or 8 people, a place where you may light our nature-scented soy candles and/or have a fire, read a book from our eclectic collection, simply enjoy the peace and quiet or talk. The den has a 32" high definition TV with streaming Netflix, Hulu Plus, Pandora, and many more channels through Roku 3. We have outdoor dining in the private fenced in yard for six, and a table and chairs for six on our deck. The fully fenced rear yard also has a fire pit and a nice gas grill for your use. We use all cotton bedding with luxurious toppers and high quality mattresses in the two bedrooms with queen sized beds. One of the bedrooms has an attached bath complete with a 1910 Crane claw foot tub, which can be used as bath or a fixed shower. We have a soy candle in here too! There is nothing like a little fire to reconnect with one's own heart. Our third bedroom has a daybed with a trundle tucked away underneath. There is a desk in this room, so it could easily be used as an office. We also have lots of board game options, art supplies, and reading materials, some which will help introduce you to this amazing part of the world. We have a two car garage where we recommend you park while staying here. We are 1 mile to downtown Black Mountain, 1/2 mile to Lake Tomahawk, the golf course, and walking trails. 20 minutes to downtown Asheville. 40 minutes or less Lake Lure, Weaverville, Hendersonville, Arden, and Bat Cave, It is so quiet here with just the sounds of nature yet you are IN TOWN and very accessible to all the wonderful boutiques, galleries, restaurants and a most fabulous hardware/ general store! You will not want to leave this magnificent town where you are literally surrounded by these beautiful ancient mountains. We strive to be environmentally friendly, using mostly natural, non-toxic products, using an air purifier plus our guests will find either tile or hardwood flooring throughout. An all main floor living space also makes staying here easy. Please let us know if you have questions. We look forward to connecting with you and seeing whether this property suits your needs and wants. Peace be with you, Vicky Olive
Guests have access to the entire home except a locked storage room where we keep supplies and a locked storage building..
Other things to note
Our home is the second to the last house on a no through street. The folks who live next to us would prefer that we live in the house full time vs. offering it up as a vacation rental. They are very kind, nice folks, named Debbie and Rick. You might think otherwise by seeing their protest signs they have in their yard. We nor our guests have ever had a negative interaction. We respect their right to protest in this way and we exercise our right to make Up in the Trees available as a vacation rental. Some people may feel uncomfortable, so we want you to know before you book. It feels a little unwelcoming initially and a little psychic cleanse might be needed, but once you pull into the garage, close the garage door you will know immediately that you are in your own private domain, whether on the front deck or in the rear yard.
No smoking indoors, which includes the front porch. Dog/s considered. No loud parties and drive slowly- out of consideration for our friendly neighbors. Pay attention to how you handle your trash, storing it in cabinet across from the washer and dryer, which is located in the kitchen. Even though our rear yard is fenced, we have black bears here in Black Mountain, so pay attention. Must be at least 21 years old to rent. If you are found with a pet on premises without permission, then you will be asked to leave, so please arrange with us in advance of your visit. You are welcome to light our home made nature scented soy candles- just remember to blow them out before you leave the house. If you have children, then please take the time to walk around and remove anything that you have concern about. If you choose to, you may add the ladder to the fort for your children's use. This way you are responsible for any accidents that may occur. If you do not regularly use a wood burning stove, fire in a fire pit or gas grill and wish to here, then you will let us know if you need help with safe operation of any of these amenities by calling me or our housekeeper Melissa. If you break something, then let us know by phone, text or email. This helps us to ensure we have what is needed for our next guests. Before you leave, please run the dishwasher for any remaining dirty dishes. And run one wash load of sheets, towels and washcloths you used during your stay. Detergent is provided. Should you have permission for a dog or dogs, then clean up after them, whether in back yard or walking in the neighborhood or town. Also, please leave $25 on kitchen counter for extra cleaning needed. Mostly, make yourself at home!
I ask that you let me know when you arrive and how you have found things and, of course, to answer any questions your may have. We have a house cleaner who lives just 15 minutes away should she be needed. We both welcome calls to make your stay the best it can be.
I attended Brevard College, graduated two years later, and went on to attend and graduate from UNC- Chapel Hill, an area where I have lived for most of the last 30+ years owning and operating a couple different companies. While at Brevard College I was introduced to lovely quaint town of Black Mountain and years later was fortunate to find a home to upgrade and make available to folks visiting the town and area. It has been very rewarding to have put together a home in Black Mountain that is restful and rejuvenating to the spirit, one where our guests have been very happy with their time spent there. My husband Don and I return there ourselves every chance we get! This area and its people are filled with beauty, grace and a magic. We also love our town and home in Carrboro and feel it to be very special. This year we had a chance to buy a home which we immediately saw the possibility of transforming it into a vintage showplace and we are pleased to make it available shorter term here when we can. We look forward to this newest adventure as hosts in our Carrboro!
