Cockle Well cottage lies in the village of Bempton on the stunning East Yorkshire Coast. Tastefully decorated, this cosy cottage offers the ideal base to explore the local area. Filey and Scarborough are nearby with the RSPB Reserve only a mile away. Up to two dogs are welcome this cottage.

The space
Cockle well Cottage was one of the first cottages to be built in Bempton village and is at least 200 hundred years old. It's made mainly of chalk stones and old brick. The exterior is old but the interior is modern as it was completely gutted and renovated ten years ago.

Guest access
Guests will have access to the whole house, garden and driveway ( latter has room for 2 cars).

Other things to note
Dogs are very welcome and there are several 'dog friendly' pubs nearby. The cottage is always well cleaned so there are no doggie smells!
Bicycles can be hired in nearby Bridlington. It's great cycling along the promenade out of season. No cars, no pollution just peace.......

Location

Bempton, East Riding of Yorkshire, United Kingdom

Bempton village is very near to the RSPB Bird Reserve. Here there are dramatic cliffs and during spring and summer, hoards of nesting sea birds inhabit the cliff face.
Bempton is also close to Filey, a lovely, quiet old fashioned seaside resort. Also nearby is Bridlington which has two lovely long promenades ideal for walking and cycling. Scarborough with its Castle and shopping centre is only half an hour away.
Guests often travel further afield, York is only an hour away as is Whitby and the North Yorkshire moors. We are surrounded by the Yorkshire Wolds made famous by David Hockney 's paintings.
Because Bempton is so near the sea, we have many great beaches and lovely, lovely fresh air.

I love living by the sea and even though I have been here 14 years, I never get fed up of gazing at it. In the summer I go and swim or take my kayak out onto the sea. The other thing I really like to do is cycle on the promenades here in Bridlington and also up onto the cliff tops. I can still cycle 'no handed' on flat bits which I'm very proud of. I feel very privileged to be the ‘guardian’ of Cockle Well Cottage for the time being. The cottage has been there a few hundred years and will be there long after I’m gone, hence the term ‘guardian’. I love the chalk stone exterior which mixes well with the old brick around the windows, a real work of art. Last year, I acquired a couple of chalk outbuildings in Flamborough and renovating them is my goal over the next few years. I like to see the chalk preserved and find it such a pity that people either paint or render over it. My hobby is also learning German, I'm quite good at speaking it but my grammar is lousy! I earn a living by owning and managing property and during the summer, I travel to York quite a bit to supervise works in student houses. After work, I really like going out into York for a meal with a friend. We have a goal to try out lots of different places.

During your stay
I always meet guests at the cottage to run through a few things, how to use appliances, where the consumer unit is etc. Some people like to chat and others like to get on with unpacking so I leave when appropriate.
