Other things to note

History The city was first officially registered as a sanitary district in 1916, after it was moved down the Mae Klong river from the old city, which is now part of Tha Pha municipality. When the new city was built, it was flooded with Chinese immigrants who migrated from southern China where drought had occurred over four years in the 1920s. During World War II the city experienced an economic boom due to its position as a hub between the east Bangkok, Kanchanaburi in the north and all provinces in southern Thailand. All goods transported by rail from Bangkok, Kanchanaburi, Burma and southern provinces had to make a stop in Ban Pong. In 1935 was the sanitary district upgraded to town status (thesaban Mueang). During World War II, the city was used by Japanese forces as a base in the region, while the connecting railway between Burma and Thailand, with train services running between Ban Pong and Mawlamyine in Myanmar during and for some years after the war. In the 1960s, the city again experienced an economic boom when several sugar refineries opened up in the area. Many large banks and government institutions placed their regional offices in Ban Pong.

Jonas User Profile

My name is Jonas Ruckman (from Sweden) and currently lives in Banpong Thailand. I can not live without football, hockey, music, books, and my partner. Thailand is my favorite country, the Rolling Stones are my favorite band. like films with excitement, The Godfather is a favorite book. Eat most things but Swedish diet is not wrong. I am a positive host who likes to take care of the guests and are happy to share my experiences in the area where I live. I love to travel and have many countries on my track record.
