A small, cozy guest house within walking distance of both downtown Bellingham and WWU campus.
This back alley studio is small. It's a mini space. 300 square feet tops. It's essentially been occupied by a WWU student for at least eight years. Amy and I loved the cabin-like feel of the place when we bought it. Since then, we've replaced the carpet with hardwood flooring, updated the electrical and gave it a new exterior and interior paint job. Updates to the bathroom and kitchen are coming soon. It is most suitable for 1-2 people, but the futon couch can be used as a second "bed" making the studio available to groups of up to four.
The guest house has a living room, small bedroom, bathroom (shower but no tub), kitchen and a backyard deck. There is also a dedicated parking spot in the back alley, right next to the studio.
Interaction with guests
We're happy to meet guests but your privacy is a priority. Therefore, we have a simple self check in process and rarely meet guests in person.
Other things to note
Due to our proximity to campus, several of the neighbors are students. Generally they are quiet, but they occasionally host parties that can be noisy. If you are looking for the perfect, idyllic place with island and mountain views you may need to look elsewhere as we are a high rental, urban neighborhood. But if you're looking for a clean, cozy and private studio at a reasonable price, we think you will be quite happy here.
Also, the guest house is probably most suitable for 1-2 people but there is a futon, so 4 guests is an option.
Finally, guests should know that the studio is located in the very back of the property which places it directly on the alley. Once inside, and because the studio does not face the alley, it is not very noticeable, but if you're not comfortable with being directly located on an alley, you may want to find alternative accommodations.
We're in a residential neighborhood so loud noise or talking should be taken inside by 10:30pm.
Also, the main house is an Airbnb rental as well. The two properties are separated by a fence, but for privacy, please access the studio from the alley. In turn, Guests in the main house are to avoid the backyard for your privacy.
