The Old Shop has just been renovated in luxurious style. Located in Akureyri one of the most beautiful towns in Iceland, up north close to the Arctic Circle. Easy to access by car or by domestic flight. The Old Shop is close to center of town and Culture house Hof, harbour with whale watching close by, gym next door. Quiet neighbourhood with surrounded with old houses. Free street parking by the house.

The space

Whole space on ground floor. Nice, fully equipped kitchen and living room, double bed in bedroom seperated from living room with curtains, good sofabed in living room, shower and wc seperated. Nice old fashion decoration in touch with modern luxury. Tv and free wifi. Garden cabin for storage like skis, extra luggage.

Guest access

You will have the whole house for your self, you also have access to a cabin in the back for extra luggage or for storing equipment.

Interaction with guests

As we live in Dalvík, 45km away, we have members of our family in Akureyri taking care of things when we are not around. My sister Inga and her family will be representing us and helping you out if needed.

Other things to note

You will have no problem sleeping although summer nights are long and bright, our curtains take care of making it feel like its night! In the winter northern lights might show. Skiing is a big thing in Iceland and Akureyri has one of the best ski areas.

Bjarni is a great host. He provides up to date information and his house in Akureyri is amazing - easy to reach from town and great living space!

Three of us stayed at Bjarni's home and loved it! There are decorations and knick-knacks everywhere that are very interesting to look at. It is a very short walk from the harbor, city, and liquor store. There is a full functioning kitchen and bath (within the bedroom) as well as TV and large DVD collection. Highly recommend.

Bjarni User ProfileBjarni is a superhost.

We are a family of five, Heiða (50), Bjarni (51) and our daughters, Anna (23), María (21) and Bríet Brá (14). In and around our home we also have three cats…Dúskur, Hrefna and Lotta.
Heiða is born in Dalvík but Bjarni is born in Grenivík on the opposite side of the fjord. We are busy most of the time taking care of our hostel and cottages as well as our little Café/bar "Gísli, Eiríkur, Helgi" but Heiða also makes decorations for weddings, birthdays and funerals and Bjarni also works as a fisherman on various trawlers and boats.
We live in Vegamót, which is our house, situated at the south entrance of Dalvík. A lot of houses in Dalvík, like in other towns and villages in Iceland, have names...and not always a real postal address! Around 70 homes in Dalvík have names and some of them are used as post adresses...like our home at Vegamót. Vegamót means Crossroads in english. We have been running our little company for five years now, providing accommodation in our Dalvík hostel, Gimli, three cottages and the "Old farm house". The cottages and the Old farm house are situated by our house Vegamót but Gimli is in the center of Dalvík.
From April to September we also run the local skihut which is a located at the ski area above Dalvík.
We are a part of “HiHostel International” and accommodation can be booked at the HiHostel pages like Photos can be found on So far we are very happy with the feedback we get and we love having guests. Our hostel has been rated No 1 HiHostel in the world of 2013 by our HiHostel guests!
We are ready to advise our guests on what to do while staying here or give information needed for their journey. We also pick up travellers from Akureyri and provide tours around the area if needed.
We hope to be able to make your stay a very enjoyable one and we welcome you to our precious Dalvík!
