Heron House can also be rented weekly and for large gatherings, sleeps up to 14 people. Private and available for functions, weddings, family reunions, business group meetings, private dinners for 40. Stunning view. Prime location.

The space

Heron guest house is the only guest house located on the beach in Heriot bay. The scenery is as good as it gets. You'll be greeted by the views of the ocean, islands, snowy mountains and rich wildlife (eagles, herons, seals, sea others, dolphins and occasional whale). The location is excellent. It is within a five minute walk to the Heriot Inn, local pub, shopping and docks and yet it is around the bend on the beach so it does not get the noise from the weekend entertainment. (The Inn is the place to be for music, Friday night dance & live band and Saturday jam night with talented locals). Heron house is a gem and it offers a variety of accommodation from a beautiful private room to entire house or a lovely individual cottage...all of them located right on the beach.

Guest access

All guests have beach access, access to general barbecue area, patio area, a fire pit (close to beach), the 'dock' which floats when the tide is in and is beached when the tide is out. Great for kayaks and swimming however not suitable for big boats.

Interaction with guests

As little or as much as needed. Privacy is of course important for many travelers so the quiet and sound of the sea is integral for the ambiance here at Heron house. We discourage loud music and late party-goers.

Other things to note

Rates vary depending on the type of accommodation and the number of people in your party. There is a separate cottage as well. Call to inquire.

Linda was a wonderful host, gave us plenty of privacy but was there when we needed her if we had any questions. The house is so beautiful and all the rooms were cute and cosy, plus the outdoor shower is such a magical touch! Our stay couldn't have been any more lovely, would definitely book with Linda again.

A group of us came to stay for one night and ended up extending our trip to 2 nights (we would have stayed for longer if we could)! The island is quite remote which was exactly what we were looking for. The house was absolutely amazing! It was so cute and perfect for a chilled weekend getaway. Linda was extremely accommodating and very lovely. I would definitely recommend visiting Heron House!

We had a great time at the house this past weekend. I surprised my girlfriend with a proposal and a surprise birthday party. Linda helped and played along flawlessly with both. She was helpful and accommodating with anything we required. As for the house, it was perfect. It has a large enough common area to entertain our group of 11. Lots of choices for sleeping arrangements that still provided privacy for all. The setting was beautiful as well. I would stay again.

Our hostess was friendly and had good energy. The space was quirky and had great views. Although the location is beautiful, the site itself is busy with projects, garbage, and stuff. It is overwhelming. It would have been nice for things to be cleaner, less cluttered and not smelly.

We arrived at Heron House in the late afternoon of Xmas eve. Greeted immediately by our host, who was friendly, albeit quite inebriated, and who's first words to us were, "I was wondering where the fuck you were." (We arrived a couple hours later than he predicted, as we stopped for lunch during our 10 hour / 3 ferry journey). After he turned the music down, we entered and were immediately shocked by how dirty the place was. Rustic, as we saw in the photos, and knew what we were getting. Unkempt, not so great. But VERY DIRTY! The couches were dirt riddled, the bathroom implements looked like they hadn't been looked at since the last guests (hair, clumps of toothpaste, smelly towels). Every bed had to be redone with fresh sheets, every single glass, plate, all cutlery and pots and pans were disgusting. Greasy film on everything, bits of food stuck on pans, breadcrumbs still on the cutting board. The freezer was packed, with zero room for us, and the fridge was repulsive with greasy rings from jars, mysterious little puddles, random crumbs, etc. When we proceeded to clean everything in the kitchen so that we could get on with our Xmas dinner, we were delighted to discover a dishwasher. When we opened it, it was full with a dirty load ready to go. Tatiana, one of the guests spoke up on behalf of our gang and proceeded, in a completely professional manner, to call Brent on the condition of the house. He later began to bad mouth her with me until I mentioned to him that she is my wife. We were also informed at the last minute that we would be sharing the house with two cats, which would've been just fine had one of us not had cat allergies. Other discoveries while trying to make the place feel a bit more cozy were, a drip bucket for the leaky roof in one bedroom, a half dozen empty / half empty cans of Lucky, Brent's beverage of choice, strewn throughout the house, random medication within reach of anyone (5 of us are 10yrs and under). When we finally found a broom, it was filthier than the floor itself. We found bird feathers under one of the beds, and rat feces in many areas. All in all, we didn't have our planned Xmas eve dinner. It was far too late and we were far too exhausted by the time we made everything livable. The next day, our planned Xmas day dinner was also put off, as we spent the entire day searching for somewhere else to rent, which proved impossible given the day of the year we chose to find something last minute. The next day we made breakfast, packed and left (a day earlier than the initial plan). We had family from Colombia visiting Canada for the first time. Very disappointing Xmas!

Linda was accommodating and helpful. The main house was huge! There are several bedrooms hung off the house in all sorts of combinations and configurations. We had a wonderful wild spirit weekend.. Kayak rentals just down the road, pub just down the road in the other direction. A great time.

We began with a bit of confusion getting the booking confirmed in the winter since Linda was out of the country. However, Linda worked through that confusion graciously and we got it done. The house worked very well for our group of 9 (10 for a night) since the 4 couples and 2 singles all got their own bedrooms. The view from the many decks is absolutely spectacular. Kayaking from Heron House worked very well. Those that didn't have their own kayaks rented from the lodge just a block away.

I am a long time resident of Quadra island and live in Heriot bay,the heron house is in an excellent location as three minute walk to just about everything , shops, pub, restaurant .About me :I enjoy travel, kayaking, and island life . I Spend winters in Africa, so can tell you lots about safari Africa and will be setting up trips for the fall but do not worry no! hard sell . .oh and if you love seafood -ask me about ordering wee delicious shooter oysters ,or the barbecue size, when in season -most months .often scallops available ,and salmon .When I was away in Africa last year I misjudged and had a person that I did not know well , manage my house .This was in December .he was extremely rude and incompetent as a manager- And there is a very harsh review on this site .Please ,do not let this have reflection on Heron house- I'm back -and it is truly a beautiful place, and it is clean {ask helper } and lovely gardens. A quiet refuge to vacation whether it be a night or a month .
