The space

Welcome to our idyllic car-free "Green" island located approx. 45 min. by car from Bergen. Distance to the center is 44 km.
Here operates Monica and Vigleik an organic coastal farm with traditional Norwegian sheep, fishing and processing plants, fruits and berries. The landscape is abandoned for traditional as it has host of many generations. Monica and Vigleik are the only permanent residents on the island, but there are also about 20 cabins. The island is about 550 acres and consists of moorland and grassland. Many different bird species. Sea Eagle we see almost every day.

We rent out the barn on the farm to various events and accommodation. The barn has previously been used for animals and storage of hay, but is now restored and insulated for year round use. The barn is a timber house that also is used as a museum of ancient artifacts from the farm. Our car-free island is very suitable for families who want to experience the people, animals, sea, fishing and landscapes in a traditional Norwegian coastal farm. Possibility of close contact and feeding of wild sheep.

The barn is about 100 m2 and consists of:
- 1 piece large room on the ground floor, hallway, bath with toilet, a little sink, shower and a small kitchen. Sofa bed for 2 people and possibly extra bed for two persons behind the partition. Stereo and wireless internet. Heating with electricity and wood stove.
- 1 piece room on the first floor with double bed + 1 extra bed space. Obs. some steep stairs and just standing height in the middle.
Large areas of lawn furniture, benches, toys, barbecue and covered fireplace. Various traditional meal can be served in the barn and guiding tours on land and sea can be ordered.

Free parking for 2 cars on the mainland. Guests will be picked up and delivered by the hosts by boat to the car park which is a 5 min. away. Clothes and shoes that are suitable for outdoor use is recommended.

Many possibilities for excursions on land and sea. 10 min drive to Meland Golf Course and 15 min. drive to shopping and groceries. 10 min by boat to public transport to Bergen. 20 min. to the North sea road. We can help you to plan your trips around.

Ypsøy coastal farm is a unique, peaceful and beautiful place for recreation, relaxation and various outdoor activities on land and sea.
The hosts are available each day during your stay.

We stayed for three nights at Vigleik's place with our three year old daughter. We had a wonderful time on the island and particularly appreciated learning about life on the farm from our host. Our daughter particularly enjoyed feeding the sheep. We truly felt at home in the bar…

Vigleik was an outstanding host. From the moment he picked me up at the bus, he made sure I was comfortable and had everything I needed for my stay. The island is the most amazing place I stayed during my time in Norway. I fed sheep, hiked, and sat by the wood stove in the bar…

What can I say about Ypsøy? Idyllic is really the best way to describe it. Vigleik was a fantastic host. He was very communicative in the days leading up to our stay. We met him in the tiny town of Rossland and he guided us to a parking space at the docks where his boat was …

We had a very pleasant stay at Ypso. The accommodation was superb and the hospitality of Vigleik and the helpfulness of other residents of this island was great. It isn't a cheap place to stay for a family of five, but this is more than compensated by the one of a kind location …
