Come glamping in our one of a kind, "off grid", 4 story guest cabin, lodge and bathhouse. Our place is ideally suited for those who are somewhat adventurous and who truly want to unplug and experience nature. Posh it is not, but various delights await you, including a variety of yummy, organic breakfast items, featuring our own totally free range eggs.

The space
It is important that you and the members of your group read the following detailed description so that you know what you're getting yourselves into as this is not a "standard" Airbnb. This is a very "glampy" experience, meaning comfortable camping, and for people from the city, this will be very different than what you're used to! To enhance the glamping experience, we have recently chosen to go "off grid", so all of our power and hot water is generated on our property. We are located rurally - there is no public transit anywhere close to us - 10 minutes from Highway #1, 20 minutes west of Salmon Arm, 5 hours from Vancouver, and 4 hours from Banff. We are 15 minutes from the closest restaurant and grocery store, so we recommend purchasing provisions on your way here so you can arrive and relax! Because there is a cell tower on Tappen Mountain which is in full view of our place, cell reception is excellent, and we do have 24 hour wifi. My husband, Peter, a talented timber framer, artist and lover of wildlife combined these three interests to produce the funky design and beautiful wood details in all of the rooms. He is continually working on and improving the guest areas and buildings so it is possible that you will see building materials and tools in the area of the guest buildings during the non-snow months. None of the rooms have their own private bathroom and instead guests use the bathrooms located in the adjacent bathhouse and there is also a well appointed outhouse. Each of the rooms has its own private entrance way to the outdoors (like with camping, to get to the toilet, you walk outside to get there). We do rent the Raven's Roost and Eagle's Perch separately, mostly during the non-summer months. This is a fully functioning hobby farm, so you can expect to share the same path as our free range laying hens and Indian runner ducks - in other words, you'll probably not want to wear your city shoes around here - and where there is manure, there are flies. In the summer, it can get very dusty from lack of rain - in fact B.C. is notorious for forest fires during July and August - and because we live in the forest, there are insects (not to discourage you, but it is a fact of life here!). Except for non-deet mosquito spray (from Om Naturale, a local company), we don't use insecticides/any chemicals, and so it is a very healthy environment for all living things. We have two very friendly dogs, and two attention craving cats, who will likely welcome you upon your arrival - they all enjoy interacting with our guests (although, due to a bad experience, our Blue Heeler, Santa, doesn't like younger children touching him). Fortunately, our dogs don't enjoy interacting with wild animals (and black bears, cougars and coyotes do live in the vicinity) - because of them and our 5 foot tall fence, you will be safe from predators on our property. Please note: they are working dogs and have full run of the property...meaning we do not lock them up during the day (but again, they are very friendly, so even people with dog phobias might change their mind about dogs!). We have 10 acres on a dead end road, backing onto Bastion Mountain, so if you are after peace, quiet, a healthy (mostly) EMF free environment, getting back to nature, interacting with the friendly residents (human and animal) and a "glampy" experience, then you'll likely enjoy your time here.

Guest access
Guests have access to the "lodge", which is a free standing combined kitchen/living/dining room, fully complete with wood stove and floor to ceiling windows looking out to the forest. In the winter time, the wood stove is the primary heat, so you will be responsible for maintaining the fire (if you will be out for the day, we're happy to keep it going for you). The kitchen is fully stocked with all of the cooking implements and dishes you might need and there is also an outdoor barbecue, and then a camp fire area for night time roasting, relaxing and star gazing. The bathhouse has a water closet and also a fully functioning hot water shower, and then there is the mini log building which houses the outhouse. We also have two canoes (you will need your own vehicle to transport them to the lake), a ping pong table, fire roasting implements, Molkky (fun Finnish bowling type game), bocce, horseshoes, snowshoes, Cards Against Humanity (including extension packs), Settlers of Catan, Scrabble, puzzles, Lego, etc...all of which we share with our guests at no extra charge. All areas of our property, except for Peter's work area, is available for our guest to explore.

Other things to note
My husband, Peter, speaks fluent German and some of us speak a little French, and even if you speak another language, we'll do our best to assist you in maximizing your Canadian experience. If you have a special occasion you would like to mark with a special cake or cupcakes, we have can arrange for our very talented (twin) 15 year old neighbours, Sam and Gillian, to whip you up something special for desert while you're here - best to arrange with Marcie before your arrival. Please see photos of their lovely creations in this listing, and then there are more on the Forest of Earthly Delights Facebook page.

Our property is located within walking distance of some lovely walks into the forest and we are a ten minute drive from Margaret Falls, which is a gorgeous, classic B.C. experience of old growth trees and cascading water. (URL HIDDEN) We are also just a few kilometers from Shuswap Lake, which is a very clean and pristine lake that Canadians flock to for their summer holidays. If you want to "get away from it all", we are happy to share our little corner of the world with you.

We live a very quiet rural life in British Columbia, doing our best to live in harmony with nature. Peter is an artist/painter and timber frame specialist, and is the designer and builder of our quite unique guest cabin, as well as our log home - he is always working on or improving the guest cabin, our house and the various buildings on the property. Marcie focuses on the various gardens on the property and growing and preparing healthy food and making sure the needs of our guests are taken care of. Our three fabulous teenagers might also be around when they're not busy working, socializing or traveling. We live simply and try to avoid commercialism as much as possible, and love reading, traveling, being in the outdoors, board games, watching good quirky movies, Norwegian musicians and eating good (chemical free) food. We believe in kindness, and this is reflected in how we treat our guests!

Sorrento and Blind Bay are closer, and if you are going to be cooking, there are a number of food markets within 10-20 minutes of us (see guide book for a full complement of grocery stores and markets).
