This sunlit room in our house has a large deck overlooking the Dry Fork River, Green Mountain and the Otter Creek Wilderness. It feels a little like a tree house. Enjoy a cozy getaway with a breathtaking view. The Otter Creek Trail is a 15 minute walk away and Red Run is even closer. Our property runs along the Dry Fork River with spectacular bedrock "beaches". Great base for outdoor adventures. You'll hear the river as you sleep.

The space

Regardless of the time of year, the view is beautiful. We are at the base of Canaan Mountain. Green Mountain is visible across the river and you can pitch a rock in the river from the balcony with a gentle toss. Sunsets are different everyday and the interplay of light and water is magical.
This is a room at the far end of our house with tall windows to see the moon, river and trees. It has windows facing Green Mountain and the Dry Fork River and is located on the old railroad grade of the Dry Fork Railroad. There is a wrap-around deck. There is a tiny fridge, microwave and a coffee pot. There is a sofa bed that has a very comfortable 4" memory foam mattress topper.

Guest access

You will have access to the room, the wraparound deck, and the bathroom. You are welcome to heat up things in our family kitchen which is downstairs and sometimes we are around to cook and share a meal.
There is an old railroad grade in front of our house where you can take walks and we are happy to point you in the direction of nice hikes. Walks around the property are encouraged. The river is nice for swimming, fishing and kayaking. We often have a campfire in the warmer months and you can join us there. We are pretty friendly folks!

Interaction with guests

We are often busy with work and property maintenance but enjoy conversation around the campfire or over coffee, wine or beer.

Other things to note

We have rustic facilities for toileting needs. Contact us if this gives you any pause and we'll explain.
There is no cell phone service where we live. There is a house phone available.
While we have wifi, we have limited bandwidth so you may not stream videos of any length while you are here and do not download large files of any sort. Also you may not play online games or do video or audio chat. Also, using your phone's wifi hotspot uses a lot of bandwidth, so please don't do that.

There are steps up to the room. This room is not handicapped accessible.
While the place is a great place for kids (we raised our two kids here and one of them has moved back with his wife to build a house!), it is right by the river and they will require close supervision. We love have kids around!

What a great location, unique home and beautiful family! We were not disappointed by any means during our stay at Dry Fork. We were unfortunately unable to meet Denice but her family oriented us and gave us great suggestions about the area and made us right at home during our short stay. There is so much to do in the area we are already planning to return to absorb more of the beauty! This is a great place to get away and immerse yourself in good company or nature!

We rode in on our motorcycle to a warm greeting by our wonderful hosts who immediately showed us to our room in the treetops. Our room; was small but clean and quite frankly we were only planning on sleeping here. The bed; was a pullout couch but had a very comfortable memory foam mattress. There was no tv but the shelves were lined with books on every subject you could think of. The room; smelled slightly of old books but aired out quickly. The Morning; was wonderful. The room was private and surrounded by windows with pull up blinders, which allowed for a 'treetop awakening' where we could see and hear the babbling river just our the door and watch the fog move through the valley. The bathrooms; Two on site. One was located inside the house right outside our bedroom door directly by the long hall, that room was for number 1's and a nice hot shower. The 2nd room for number 2's was located attached to the next house on the property just a few steps from our room. Both were shared bathroom's but it was never an issue. We were welcomed around the fire where we told of our journeys and heard some of the most interesting stories from host and family. We felt centrally located and stayed for 3 nights while touring through Tucker County and surrounding areas. We felt just as welcomed on day 3. The host allowed us to hike their property which is surrounded by the Monongahela National Forest. Their property was fascinating. We will return. Truly an experience.

We loved our room. What a wonderful place to wake up and enjoy a cup of coffee and watch the mist rise off the river - absolutely beautiful. Denice, John and dog Luna were very inviting host.

Denice and John's home is a unique hand-made house with many creative touches. Plenty of thoughtfully constructed surfaces with natural materials. The room though small, had two delightful window filled walls. This location made for an unusual experience. I especially enjoyed the deck which overlooks trees besides the river, being encompassed by nature. The family were very accomodating and helpful. The trail along the river was delightful. The trip to the nearby towns for some history and culture was very interesting too.

Denice was a great host. Denise and her husband welcomed us into their home and made us feel comfortable. They made sure that we had everything we needed and more. Their home had a beautiful view of the river and a peaceful vibe . We would definitely stay there again.

I am a nurse and a college professor at a small college in West Virginia and my husband is a photographer. We live in a beautiful setting along the Dry Fork River in Tucker County, WV. Canaan Valley State Park, Timberline Resort, Blackwater Falls State Park, and White Grass Cross Country Ski Center are all within 30-40 minute drive. In addition, opportunities for mountain biking, hiking and whitewater sports abound. We love to travel and have a home in the mountains of Veracruz, Mexico. We enjoy sharing stories over a cup of coffee or a glass of wine or around the campfire.
