Casa Joia was originally a small vineyard. It is extremely charming and rustic. We are nestled on the hillside in an area of outstanding natural beauty with uninterrupted views down to the Obidos Lagoon at the end of the garden. The lagoon is home to a huge variety of water and wading birds, flamingos, storks, purple heron and curlew, plus fish eels and shellfish. With one hectare of garden we offer a truly tranquil environment where normally the only sounds are from our feathered friends.

Location

Nadadouro, Leiria, Portugal

Nadadouro is the nearest village, approx 2km. It has two bars/cafes, two restaurants and a small but very
good grocery store.
The small resort of Foz do Arelho is approx 4km and is where the calm lagoon meets the wild Atlantic. It has a
beautiful beach and cafes/bars/restaurants
Caldas da Rainha, the nearest large town, is approx 7/8 km. It is a busy town with shops, good supermarkets and a daily fruit/vegetable market in the main square. There is a wonderful park in the centre complete with a boating lake, important sculpture and
museum. Good cafes in the park make it the perfect place to watch the world go by. Caldas is the home of the ceramic region in Portugal with a ceramic museum alongside the large pottery of Bordalo Pinheiro, who are famous for their highly decorated jugs/bowls and tableware.
Geographically we are extremely well situated with many interesting destinations with easy reach from as little as 15 mins to just over 1 hour away.

Retired and happy. I love all aspects of our natural world.......birds, trees, flowers. I'm a passionate gardener and adore my constant companion Roma, my little Italian Greyhound.
During your stay
I live on site in another part of this converted farm with my little dog.
I keep a low-ish profile (and try to encourage my dog to do the same) but am always readily available to offer information, help and advice.
My overall aim is that quests have to opportunity to enjoy this magical and tranquil location.
