Welcome to Albergue Kodo Guesthouse!

This guesthouse is ideal for people looking to experience the pleasure of walking on the ancient Kumano Kodo pilgrimage. Here you can relax in a Japanese style house and experience the local way of life.
Located a short bus ride or leisurely 7km hike away from Nachi Taisha (那智大社), we are in a great place to explore the beautiful area. From Nachi Taisha, it is a 14km hike to Koguchi (小口).

We offer free High-speed Wi-Fi for all guests during your stay.

The space

Newly opened in May 2017!

The house is situated in a very quiet residential area. A stream flows nearby, facing a deep mountain, and in the evening we can see the Milky Way in the sky and you have the chance to see wild animals such as deer appear in the garden.
In the right season, you can see fireflies in the evening!

During your stay in the quiet nature, you can sit on a rocking chair to read, or relax on the edge of a Japanese-style room facing our large garden. We wish for you you to have a comfortable stay!

We have three bedrooms:
On the first floor we have two rooms, separated by a sliding door/fusuma (Room 1F-A and 1F-B). The maximum capacity of each room is 3 people.
On the second floor (Room 2F), we have another room which is suitable for 2 people, which offers a more private space.
Each room has wide open windows, and you can feel the transition of the four seasons in Japan with warm sunlight.
The floor of all rooms are tatami, and sleeping on a soft futon helps to heal the tiredness of your trip.

We offer a superb selection of convenient ready made food, as well as frozen food, available for you to purchase for a small fee. We can also organize a special sashimi platter from a local fishmonger, to make your experience here even more authentic. As well as this, we also stock refreshing beverages for a reasonable price.
Our partner café, is available very day except Mondays for you to enjoy a simple meal.
Please note that due to our location, the nearest conbini is 20minutes walk away. If you would prefer to eat fresh food, please buy from a supermarket before you arrive – we have a well equipped kitchen for you to work with.

There is a large children's playground next to the guest house.
Children in the local area gather here when school is over. Many kids often gathered together, play spiritually until early evening with my children.
In order to overcome the Kumano Kodo path around Katsuura (勝浦), it is necessary to schedule roughly two to three days depending on the person.
If you would like to have your big baggage, cars, motorcycles, bicycles etc during that period, it is also possible to leave your valuable items here.

Guest access

Bathroom, toilet, laundry, washroom, kitchen dining, living room, garage, parking lot are shared.

Having fun with the host family using as a place to exchange information between travelers.

Interaction with guests

During your stay, I am at the guest house's living room or the office next to the guest house on the same premises or at home.
If you require any assistance, myself or one of my staff will respond immediately.

Other things to note

Our guesthouse does not have a fine lobby, luxurious dinner, large public bath.
Instead, I think that you can enjoy interacting with hosts and host families, more intimate conversations and information exchange with other travelers, which can not be experienced at other big hotels and inns.

Please note, that during the day (9:00-18:00) I will be working in my office and therefore less available. The office can be reasonably loud as it is a printing business, so I apologise in advance for any disturbances.

This is a really great spot. My partner and I stayed with Taj for 5 days and we were so happy to have his guesthouse as a base for seeing some of the spectacular beauty this area has to offer. Not only is the guesthouse located in a beautiful, quiet neighbourhood but it's steps away from the Kumano Kodo and Nachi falls. We got to do lots of hiking thanks to Taj's help coordinating our treks, and we got a really great sushi making lesson and sake tasting thanks to Taj's connections in the community. Taj and his staff were so helpful in making our stay memorable. The guesthouse is kept immaculately clean, the rooms are very comfortable, and the hosts are truly lovely people. We couldn't have asked for more!

Would rate this place a 6 out of 5! Could not recommend more highly. Our stay was just beautiful! Gorgeous little Japanese home with incredibly comfortable futon style bedding on traditional tatami floors. The house is in beautiful condition and Taji and his wife are amazing hosts. They helped us check in, provided us with guides, maps and suggestions for their favourite sights, food and onsen. We had our own car so sights were super easy to get to, however, there appeared to be excellent public transport servicing the area and Taji constantly offered guests lifts by car and provided great assistance, above and beyond. Location was perfect for anyone wanting to see the beauty that Wakayama has to offer (pretty coast lines, beaches, island onsen, forest walks, temples and waterfalls all incredibly close by) and accesible even without a private car. Thank you both for an amazing experience and for showing us the best food we have eaten in all of Japan! We are so grateful that you shared your home and birthday celebrations with us. We hope to see you again sometime! Namaste! Xx

Beautiful location, in rural Japan but has a really good bus service close by that takes you to the station or to the stunning Nachi falls, Pilgrimage trail and shrines. The host, Taji, speaks very good English, he was very friendly, welcoming and taught us a lot about the area and about the culture. We booked very late yet Taji was kind enough to get everything ready, pick us up from the train station and stop by the supermarket. The house is beautiful traditional style, it had great facilities and very comfortable futons. Highly recommend!

Taji and Miki have been great hosts and we've had a wonderfull time together in Nachi. In their house they've created an atmosphere where we felt welcome and at home. Their house is perfectly situated for hicking in the beautiful mountains of the Kumano area and for visiting the Nachi falls. We'll defenitely come back to enjoy their hospitality and company again.

We had a great time at Taji's place. We were able to drop off our luggage before check in. We had dinner together, which was a nice way to get to know each other. Taji and his wife were really friendly and open. The house was very neat and relaxing. We had a good night's sleep. Eventually Taji even brought us back to the train station as there was some heavy rain all day. We definitely recommend staying here and would do it again when the time comes.

I have been to Japan several times........ and in no other place it was like in the guesthouse ALBERGUE KODO. So right on the first night I felt like at home. We all ate together and talked a lot. I was there for 5 nights and that felt too short. The traditional Japanese house is beautiful, very clean and the peace in the village is unique. I could relax and take time, to get off from the hectic world. Thanks for everything! I come back!

Wow! I wish I could have stayed longer, although I was only one night I immediately felt at home, Taji and the staff are very friendly, we had dinner together and went to an Onzen, Taji showed me his workshop and his garage that I found great. This place unlike other Airbnb, where sometimes you do not see the managers, here you can see that their intention is not to be a business, but to exchange culture and share a little of who you are. I appreciate all the attentions and their warmth, I highly recommend this place. In my case I stayed at the end of my tour of Kumano Kodo.

Thank you for visiting my guest house page from a number of listings.
The first picture is a pict of the whole staff of my guest house.

It has been 16 years since I moved to Wakayama from Tokyo. I am the father of three healthy boys. I would be pleased if you could touch on Japanese culture and Japanese people more deeply.
I have a foreign sister-in-law. That's way I am very interested in foreign cultures and foreign lives.
I am very much looking forward to having meaningful time to communicate with guests.

My dream is to make friends around the world.
