Our farm is a little over thirty acres with a rushing stream, and two creeks. We have a two-acre avocado grove, a vegetable garden, and gardens around the house. The gardens include: a Japanese Shinto garden with a Tory gate, a Japanese bridge, a tea house and a Japanese-inspired pagoda. The views from the hills are magnificent, and you will be surrounded by incredible rain forest trees and vegetation. Birds will wake you up at daybreak.
We do not have a gym to offer, but you can hike our trails. We do not offer you a fancy restaurant, but you can eat healthy food at the farm. We guarantee you zero stress, zero noise pollution and one hundred per cent clean air. Our place is very secluded and totally private. We will not have more than five guests at a time. If what you are looking for is peace and relaxation Casa San Rafael del Pedregoso is the place for you.
A furnished room in the main house with a double bed, its own bathroom and plenty of hot water. Breakfast is included with single or double occupancy.
Wireless internet connection is most often available in and around the main house. Due to our rural location, however, sometimes patience is required,
Interaction with guests
We will be available during your stay to give you a free tour of our place and to answer questions about our area, but we understand that part of vacation is to run away from your daily life, and that you need your space.
Other things to note
There are two seasons in Costa Rica: a dry one from the end of December to the end of April, and a rainy one from May to the middle of December. September, October, and most of November are very wet.
We speak fluent English and Spanish and some French.
Visiting the rainforest requires hiking boots and/or rain rubber boots at all times. You can purchase them in Santa Maria if you prefer to travel light.
Be sure you pack a jacket or sweater, long pants, and long sleeve shirts or blouses. We are high in the mountains and early mornings and evenings can be on the chilly side.
Bring your mosquito repellent just in case.
Please advise us of any food allergies.
Remember that we are immersed in the forest. If you are allergic to bees and wasps, please bring your medication.
If you have an e-reader, bring it with you. We also have some books in English, Spanish and French that we are happy to share with you during your stay.
Three dogs and one cat sleep in the main house. Consider this fact if you are allergic to dogs or cats. The guesthouse, however, is pet free.
Do not forget any medication you must take. Getting the same brand name, or type you get at home is often difficult. There are, however, good doctors and pharmacies in the area.
Transportation is not included. To get from the airport to our farm you may hire a taxicab—about US $100. We can arrange for a taxi to pick you up at Juan Santamaria Airport if you provide us with your flight number, and time of arrival at least three days ahead of your trip. Another excellent idea is to rent a 4x4 vehicle with GPS, and drive up to the Casa. You may also take a bus from San Jose to Santa Maria de Dota (you will catch the bus at the Musoc bus terminal). The taxi fare from Santa Maria de Dota to the farm is around $14 (20 minutes).
You will get breakfast. Lunch and supper can be arranged as extras. All guests in a party must order the same dish. We have a limited menu to choose from. Please let us know three days in advance of your arrival if you are interested in this option, so we can plan ahead. If you are staying in the guesthouse, you have a small kitchen at your disposal to prepare meals. There are supermarkets in Santa Maria and San Marcos.
A good idea is to combine your sojourn with visits to other areas. Once on the farm, we can help you with local options.
In the cities and main tourist places, credit cards are accepted. In small towns, especially in rural areas, we highly recommend you carry either U.S. dollars or Costa Rica currency. There are banks in Santa Maria and San Marcos with ATMs where American Cards are often accepted, but not guaranteed.
Of course, feel free to contact us with any (EMAIL HIDDEN)
Anyone who is eighteen years of age and over is welcome to visit us. We do not discriminate because of ethnicity, gender, sexual preference, or religion. Your only requirement is to enjoy and respect nature. Guests are not allowed to smoke inside the main house or the guesthouse.
