We enjoyed our one night stay at the house. We had some difficulty finding the property using the directions we were first given, but when we called Di again we got better directions and found the place immediately. It's quite close to the roadside. The kitchen is very well equipped with everything you need (electric frypan, blender stick, plunger etc) and the fridge-freezer is huge. The place could cater well for a party of 8 people and has a large dining room table and chairs. The heater in the lounge is very good, but we couldn't get the hall heater to work. It may have been broken. The shower was really great - hot with excellent pressure. Apparently you are supposed to boil the water to drink it as its untreated. We didn't see the notice about boiling the water until the morning because it was behind a blind we had already pulled down on arrival when it was dark, by that time we'd already drunk heaps. We did not meet Di, but she was responsive and communicative by message and phone.

Di was kind enough to help with late night check-in. The location was so beautiful, however house urgently requires rebuild. Appliances werent working either. Bed mattress had stains in them. Di had warned us of the heater not working

A great little spot close to Bicheno with enough sleeping room for 8 people.... Just a basic old style cottage that wasn't very fancy but is nice and quiet with gross of room for the kids to play.

We had a Great Stay with Di. The Douglas River is simply beautiful and we felt so special with our own private keys to access this amazing area. The house was well appointed with stove, microwave, pots and pans and was exceptionally clean and comfy. We bought our food with us but easily could have driven into Bicheno for Take Away or Dining options. Our Daughter played in the well maintained area around the house and the bird song was beautiful. Would love to stay here again in winter as the fire looked amazing. Great fly screens let us open the house up and hear the beach roaring in the distance as we went to sleep. Would highly recommend this area for people looking for something special just out of the Bicheno town bustle, and for beach lovers as the river, beach area is paradise.

The Madsen family have farmed "The Douglas" since 1939. The property runs sheep and cattle. Diane and Ian look forward to meeting you when you visit.
