The space
((COVID-19 NOTE: As we look forward to summer we must acknowledge the constant changing situation regarding COVID -19 and in order to keep us and our families safe, we must continue social distancing to help stop the pandemic from further spread. In order to ensure your safety at Islet Cottage we are implementing these added precautions and changes:
· We have blocked off at minimum 30 hours between guest stays in order to give us the time we need to clean to the highest standard. Every surface will be disinfected.
· Please, no added visiting guests in the space while you are enjoying your solitude at Islet Cottage.
· As your hosts, we will maintain social distancing from you. We will communicate through a message board that is located outside between the Airbnb and our camp at Silver Islet. This is to ensure we maintain the required social distancing rules while still able to serve any and all of your needs.
· Please maintain all social distancing rules in the community of Silver Islet, the same as you would do in town. We have a vested interest in keeping everyone in our community safe.
We care for all of you and want you and your loved ones to remain safe during your stay at Islet Cottage.) )

We are one hour East of Thunder Bay, Ontario right next door to Sleeping Giant Provincial Park.
Suitable for up to 2 adults.

The cottage is equipped with an outdoor kitchen which has a small two burner stove top as well as a BBQ to cook on. We suggest bringing some pre-prepared easy meals that heat up quickly. (Spaghetti/soups/chili/stew etc). Your food can be stored in the indoor kitchen in an eco-friendly ice cooler. If you require added cooler space we can help out.

You have a beautiful outdoor hot shower for your daily use located right at Islet Cottage.
As a special gift, for one evening during your stay, we offer you the use of our sauna overlooking Lake Superior. It is right down at the Lake and is lovely and romantic!

Bring your own bikes, kayaks, canoe and solid hiking footwear. Bring your own slippers for indoors.
Wood is provided for the outdoor fire pit and indoor wood stove.
At Islet Cottage we try to provide a non-allergen and scent free environment for our guests. We do not allow dogs or pets.

Guest access
Sleeping Giant Provincial Park has an incredible trail system both for novice and experienced hikers/mountain bikers and there are hiking trails just a short walk from the cottage. We can provide detailed information for you upon your arrival.
Lake Marie Louise Campground is a short drive or bicycle ride away and offers a swimming beach, canoe rentals, a visitor center and great interpretative programming.
The Sibley Peninsula and Silver Islet are a birders paradise. Sleeping Giant Provincial Park is home to the Thunder Cape Bird Observatory which is within hiking distance from Islet Cottage.
Islet Cottage is located on the shore of Lake Superior, the worlds largest fresh water lake. The water is cold year round and weather conditions are subject to sudden and sharp changes. The big lake helps cool us in the summer (bring a sweater), helps deter the bugs, entertains us with amazing storms and provides us with breathtaking views.

Other things to note
The ground is rugged, so sturdy footwear is essential.

We are totally off-grid. ("Data Detox") There is no cellular service at Silver Islet and Islet Cottage does not have wifi, internet nor telephone service.

There are many private camps at Silver Islet, please respect people's privacy.

The "Avenue" is fun to walk down and there are many original miners homes still standing as well as the Office, the General Store, the old hotel and the graveyard. The Silver Islet Mine dates back to 1868 and will be celebrating its 150th birthday in 2018.
