Very small tiny little 1 Bedroom cottage in the heart of Yorkshire moors, with many original features . Comfortably sleeps two. Perfect for a little getaway with no phone internet or television. Pub over the road, lots of walks and activities in the Moors National Park. Seventeen miles to Whitby and the coast. Please note the cottage is very small the living room is 2.75mX 3.4m with a kitchen 2mX1.14m. Bedroom is 2.8mX 2.65m.

The space

The cottage is 260 years old and still has many of the original features including; stone floors, beamed ceilings, wooden spiral staircase and bare sandstone walls. This is not a holiday cottage it is my home when I am in the UK so it lacks some of the standard holiday features, their is no microwave, shower, internet or television. The kitchen is tiny but well equipped to cook basic meals. The cottage is tiny, possibly the smallest on Airbnb the stairs are very narrow and steep, because of this the cottage is not really suitable for people with limited mobility, the elderly or couples with a baby or children. It is a perfect base for couples with a sense of adventure wanting to explore the moors and escape technology.

Guest access

Guests will have the run of the house and can use the kitchen, bathroom and living room as they please. There is a secure storage shed near the cottage for bicycles.

It certainly is a quaint, original cottage but right in the heart of the Moors so perfect for exploring the area. The Eskdale Arms was good for food and drink.

Response from James:
Hi Stuart glad you had a good time you didn't have the best of weather. I have been trying to replace the sofa for a year cant find one that will fit so you can open the stairs door.

James' cottage is a real rustic gem in the heart of little Castleton. It is very small as described on the advert, but it was fine for me and I loved its authentic historical character. I was grateful to get a lift up from the station too, which saved me a haul with the bags. In short, a fine little moorland cottage, a good base for exploring a beautiful part of Yorkshire.

The cottage is beautiful and the bed is very comfy! We dealt with James' dad who was very friendly and was flexible with our check in and out. Would recommend to anybody. Thank you for hosting us :)

This "wee" cottage was such a wonderful find on airbnb. If you want a trip back in time then this is the place for you as there is no TV or WiFi and the kitchen is basic but this all added to the charm of the place. Perfect Base for exploring the Yorkshire moors or popping to Whitby. Can't recommend this place enough

James's place is so lovely. Its like being transported into 'the good old days', no TV no wifi, loads of books and games and in the perfect place for the most magnificent scenery to walk and cycle in. The house is beautiful, full of original features, perfect for a couple. We were given recommendations of where to eat and local things to do, and definitely spot on with the food - The Eskdale pub for dinner and the village tearooms for breakfast both 5*! The villagers are really friendly, we felt so welcome. We will be coming back.

This quirky little cottage is a step into the past. A real treat for those that appreciate such things. The host was extremely friendly and helpful. We loved our stay and wished we had stayed for a longer visit. The local events rag for the area had a lot of varied things to do. We could have easily spent a week or two..... A highlight for me.

We had a wonderful stay at this lovely house- felt very homely! Loved the bookcase, games and the cosiness of the rooms. I especially appreciated the original features which had been kept in the house- it was like a charming trip back to the 1930s. The kitchen was well equipped with some added extras in the fridge for us. Great location- few strides from the pub and local shop in a beautiful village.
