About this listing

If the idea of staying in an adorable "off-the-grid" cabin located close to everything the Bay Area has to offer appeals to your sense of adventure, this is the place for you. Located behind the main house where there's a bathroom and kitchen for making coffee. Simple.

The space

The 8 x 10 cordwood garden cabin sleeps a single person (or cuddlesome couple) comfortably. There's an antique iron extra-long twin bed, chest of drawers, and small amount of hanging space. There is no electricity or heat (there is wifi though), but the down comforter will keep you toasty. Equipped with battery-powered lantern and a headlamp for your use.

Note: the kitchen and bathroom are in the main house.
Limit 2 guests.

The cabin is located in the garden behind the main house. A brick path leads along a patio to the porch and kitchen door of the house. You'll have access to the kitchen (to make coffee or tea only--no cooking) and bathroom in the main house throughout your stay. Since the cabin has no electricity, you are welcome to use the kitchen outlets as needed to charge devices.

I'll generally be around during your stay and will help you get situated and comfortable with the lighting in the cabin. You are welcome to make coffee or tea in the morning (or anytime) if you like.

This is a really safe and cute neighborhood, with shopping and dining a short walk from the house. There is ample street parking available.

The #18 bus to downtown Berkeley is on Solano Avenue, 2 blocks away. N. Berkeley BART is a 15 minute walk along a recently renovated pedestrian/bike path. There's parking at the station. BART runs from SFO or to OAK. If my schedule permits, I'm happy to pick you up or drop you at the N. Berkeley BART station. There are always taxis there, as well as Uber or Lyft.

I have a very sweet and magnificently trained Aussie dog named Finn in residence.

Guest access

The cabin is located in the garden behind the main house. A brick path leads along a patio to the porch and kitchen door of the house. You'll have access to the kitchen (to make coffee or tea only--no cooking) and bathroom in the main house throughout your stay. Again--feel free to use the kitchen outlets if you need to charge an electronic device.

Note: there is not a bathroom in the cabin. The only bathroom is inside the main house.

Interaction with guests

I'll be around during your stay and will help you get situated and comfortable with the lighting in the cabin. You are welcome to make coffee or tea in the morning (or anytime) if you like.

Other things to note

Deborah User ProfileDeborah is a superhost.

Born in Cincinnati, I moved to Montreal when I was 10. From the age of 12, rather like someone in a 19th century novel, I went away to boarding schools, a few of them Catholic convents, I love history and literature, have an MA in English from UC Berkeley, and currently work at the University grading student papers and helping students with their writing. I'm also certified to teach English to speakers of other languages, which I hope to do overseas someday. I've spent extensive time in Mexico, France, and Ghana, and have traveled through Europe, Vietnam, and Mali. I have two children and three grandchildren under 2 1/2. My house tells a story; if you look around, perhaps you'll crack the code.
