Our 1911 cottage has been lovingly renovated over the last few years, restoring and retaining many original features including the Tasmanian blackwood floors, art deco light fittings, doors and wall panelling.

Quality vintage furnishings and unique knick-knacks fill the space, making a cosy and unique stopping place for your stay in this truly special part of the world.

The space
**To keep you safe when you stay with us, our caretaker has completed COVID-19 cleaning training and ensures that the cottage is deep cleaned between each stay.**

The living room, with coonara wood heater, is filled with morning sunlight and provides books, games, puzzles, a record player, selection of LPs, and TV with Netflix and Stan for passing time on rainy days or after a big day sightseeing. Knitting needles and a range of yarn are supplied for that lazy crafternoon when the weather turns properly wild.

Interested in learning more about the history of this place? Immerse yourself in one of the books provided that will open your eyes to the extraordinary (and often grim) history of Strahan, the unique local fauna and flora, and the story of this wild west coast.

Each generous bedroom has a double bed and a quality mattress and linen for a restful night’s sleep. Electric blankets and oil heaters are also supplied for those cold west coast nights.

Kitchen is set up with everything you need, including key staples and breakfast supplies (eggs, bread, local made jams, butter, milk, salt/pepper, oil, tea, coffee). Sit and enjoy a cup of tea at the 2.4m/8ft long original 1860s refectory table while you take in the view out the French doors to the green and lush established garden. A picnic set and esky (cool box) are available for your use, as is an old school dial-up telephone for free calls locally and Australia-wide. We supply a coffee pod machine with Fairtrade biodegradable pods from Urban Brew for a guilt free morning coffee.

The cottage garden, with ferns and rustic shedding, is full of native birds. See which ones you can spot flitting in and around the bushes and flowers. At the rear of the yard is an heirloom orchard (help yourself to blackberries from the patch or pears when the tree is laden) and there is plenty of space to contemplate your day or enjoy the late afternoon light before the sun sets over the garden. A BBQ awaits your next culinary idea.

A full sized bathtub will ease your aches after a walk in the national park, and the bathroom is supplied with soft, fluffy towels, shampoo, conditioner and body wash. A front loader washing machine including detergent (already loaded) is also available, as are two portable clothes racks for drying. The shower is over the bath.

We will supply you with firelighters, matches and a wood supply enough for your first night (if you need more it can be readily purchased at the IGA supermarket or petrol station). In colder months (May to October) we will have the fire set for you and warming the house for your arrival.

Where you’ll be

Strahan, Tasmania, Australia

Strahan is a special place. Perched on the edge of the Tasmanian west coast wilderness and UNESCO World Heritage Area, Strahan is your perfect base for exploring.

Strahan is located on the Traditional lands of the Mimegin people. We pay respects to both the Traditional Custodians, the Mimegin people and the ongoing Custodians of these lands, the Palawa people. We pay respects to their Elders past and present, and enduring connection to Country.

Please note - Telstra is the only phone carrier that works on the west coast. Our cottage has a landline available for all guests with free calls to any land or mobile number in Australia.

We're an open-minded family who enjoys exploring our beautiful world. After discovering the Tasmanian West Coast a number of years back and completely falling in love with the raw wildness of the place, we bought and renovated a 100 year old cottage in Strahan. We hope you love it as much as we do. For those who let us share their homes and spaces - thank you for having us.
