The beautiful Piazza of Figine hosts a market day every Tuesday morning. (Kind of reminds me of the piazza in the movie Malena of Monica Belluci). On regular days, there are the old men gathered in one bar chatting and playing cards and on several weekends a year- traditional medieval festivities.
It has 5 bars for every taste and age group, where you can have coffee in the sunlight, different restaurants and wine bars, groceries, fruit stands, wine bar, pizza parlor, a typical Italian barber shop, the neighborhood tabacchi (an Italian version of 7-11 but not quite).
The singer Sting has a vineyard in one of our hills (we are in the Chianti region- Italy's famous wine region and we sometimes see him in the piazza (locals just leave him alone) and sightings of Madonna and Dustin Hoffman (also left alone).
Figline is 25 minutes away by train from Florence, 15 minutes by bus from The Mall (Gucci and branded discount centers). Unlike Florence which only has tourists, Figline has both locals and tourists co-mingling peacefully.Your private entry room is comfortable with thoughtful amenities and adjacent to toilet and bath.

The place was sooo lovely! Room was in old, beautiful Italian town house with cat and pretty staircase, just 1 min from the city centre :) there was no problem with communication, even though we came very late. Rowena and Massimo were the lovliest couple, they gave us warm welcome (carrot cake was delicious!!!) and told us some stories and suggestions for visiting Florence, which was our next stop :) we've had great time, thank You! Highly recommend! <3

Wonderful hosts and truly unique experience staying in a beautiful rustic home in the charming medieval town of Figline Valdarno. It is close to the piazza, shops, train station and an amazing gelataria (ask Massimo for the name). Florence is a 20 minute train ride away so you can live away from the chaos. At night, the town comes alive and there are plentiful bars and restaurants to eat delicious food. We requested dinners and lunch made by Massimo and Rowena which is HIGHLY recommended! Flavourful, simple, and fresh. They have two bikes which can be used to explore the area, get to nearby pools, and ride alongside the Arno river. If it's up your alley, you should see if you can request some time for Massimo and Rowena to show you around as that is what made our trip. You simply can't see the entirety of Italy's beauty without the company of locals. We can't wait to come back in the future.

Staying at massimo's place was awesome. Very friendly people who respects your privacy but if you want are they where always in for a chat or laugh. On Tuesday's your 100 meters away from the local market. The treinstation is easily walkable and a good way to go for a day to firenze Thank you for this lovely stay!

Massimo and Rowena were amazing hosts. They were very warm and friendly and were always making sure I was ok. I had a great time at their place, which is a beautiful house in the center of Figline, the perfect place to have some peace and relax.

Massimo was a great host. He showed me around Figline and provided suggestions such as the local pool, nice walks and good bars. The house is clean and quiet. The bed was comfortable and had a fan. Massimo was kind and patient while I tried to speak Italian. The area is about 30 minutes from the centre of Florence and much cheaper than the city. There is a market on Tuesday morning.

If all airbnb hosts are half as kind and serviceminded as Massimo, I would recommend airbnb to everybody! He is the perfect host. He even gave me ride to S Giovanni to my new place. Our conversation was great. He showed me Figline. We had long walks together, along Arno, and up in the hills. He offered me nice meals, simple, but tasty, shared in deep friendliness, and he even repaired my suitcase. Because I move to Italy permanently it is extremely useful and nice to know people like Massimo. I have got a new friend too. Massimo is an excellent host!

Hello, we are Massimo and Rowena, two very different people living harmoniously with our cat Romeo and a regular visitor, Giulietta, Romeo's girlfriend.

Massimo is a simple Italian whose family has lived in Figline for generations. His father is the first mechanic of the town so they were the first ones to have a car in the village. As all Italians, he loves his mamma (both his parents have passed away).
Massimo works as a leather cutter for Gucci and spends his past time walking (a lot) by the river Arno, and having coffee with other locals at the piazza bar. He cooks simple Italian meals at lunch and dinner and we both like going around flea markets and Tuscan countryside on weekends (yes, you can tag along!)
Rowena is a bohemian traveller who has lived in Paris, Dubai, Singapore, Manila, Côte d'Azur, Brussels, Thailand. She is an engineer who has worked in cosmetic marketing and designs travel products for her own social enterprise. When not travelling, she works at home or at the piazza. She is 80% hermit, 20% party animal.
Massimo's "bad" side is he likes to keep the kitchen clean in his way. But he is patient in teaching Italian, fixing around the house and is very helpful and sincerely likes good people.
We are quiet and easygoing, we respect your privacy but are here for you should you need a chat or any help getting around.
If you are more traveller than tourist, would like to experience living the Italian life, a balance of nature and community with both locals and fellow travellers, have easy access for daytrips to Florence, other neighbouring Tuscan towns and outlet stores, come stay with us. And discover the beauty within you under the Tuscan sun.
