Finbarr and Eleanor have owned Springfield Farm since January 2014 where they have worked to re-establish the 118 acres as a working family farm. It started with two acres of organic crops but now ambition has taken over and there's a new barn being built and to be open in 2020 for a terroir experience.

Springfield Farm offers a Yurt experience. This is a beautiful "tent" a "glamping" boutique experience.

Close to Martintown, Cornwall, Ottawa, Montreal and Stateside.

The space
Come "Glamping" for a night or two in the beautiful, unique Yurt in Apple Hill, Ontario. Stay in this spacious Mongolian-style, 100% Canadian made Yurt on a traditional family farm just 1.5 hours west of Montreal, 50 minutes south of Ottawa and 20 minutes north of Cornwall/US Border. The Yurt is approximately 226 square feet, open concept with a ramp to the entrance door of the Yurt. For this reason furnishings are compact - the double bed is an antique one, smaller than standard and hence if you are over 6' it is possibly a consideration to use the little chair/cot that is inside the Yurt. The retro Danish Chair/cot is a pull-out and sheets are provided. We do recommend this experience for 2 adults who share the one double bed and possibly one other adult for the cot or a child. Please note that this is not camping but it is also not a hotel room and as such we cannot accommodate larger groups in the Yurt nor can we reconfigure the beds for such a small space - we appreciate your understanding.

Very Important to note this Yurt is "OFF-GRID" which means that there is no electricity inside of the Yurt, we provide LED lights that are battery-powered and request that there is no smoking inside the Yurt or wax candles that are lit due to safety regulations.
You and your guests (maximum 3 persons) will be welcomed by hosts Finbarr McCarthy and Eleanor McGrath and we welcome you to walk and talk with the hosts about their fields, The farm is surrounded by nature and the Beaudette River runs through the property. Guests will be welcomed by the songs of birds, stillness of the night sky and free from the hustle and bustle of city life. A paradise to be experienced in a Yurt!

Guest access
Guests will have access to the gardens which are awash with beautiful flowers all summer long. Inside a repurposed traditional wooden outhouse now houses a small mini-fridge, a microwave, the coffee maker and outlets for any recharging of technology. A briquette BBQ with the chimney is available for meals to be cooked and small picnic table (available upon request)to enjoy eating outside. We suggest you take out the light chairs from inside the Yurt and enjoy the view from the deck. PLEASE NOTE IN THE FALL ONLY: Inside the Yurt there is a a small wood burning stove which can provide some heat and certainly lots of ambiance. There is a portable outhouse for the traditional camping part of the experience. And we have an outdoor shower (really recommended only for summer guests or warm fall) which is with water stored in the sun - it is refreshing!

Other things to note
Springfield Farm is in the heartland of the first settlements of the province of Ontario. The Mohawk Nation of Akwesasne is located approximately 30 minutes drive south from the farm and situated on the beautiful St. Lawrence Seaway hosting the Akwesasne International Pow-Wow in September, along with shopping, restaurants and a fun Casino experience. Rural communities such as Apple Hill, Martintown, Alexandria offer the small town warmth, antiquing, great local cafes and architectural history. Annually in Maxville is the Highland Games and in Williamstown the annual fair which is the oldest in Canada! Come stay at the Yurt and bike, hike or drive to explore the birthplace of Ontario.

Hosts, Finbarr McCarthy and M Eleanor McGrath are passionate about organic farming. Springfield Farm has been a family farm for over 200 years, with a traditional Loyalist stone home and large dairy barn on the property. In 2014, they purchased the farm so as to raise their family within a strong farming community and participate in the growing "field to table" movement. They have added the Yurt to their farm to share their passion for the farm and provide an opportunity for Eco-tourism, artist retreat and raise awareness of the beauty of Apple Hill and the surrounding Celtic heritage of Stormont Dundas Glengarry and the Mohawk Nation of Akwesasne.

During your stay
Guests are most welcome to walk the farm where there are distinct paths but not into the woods. From Springfield Farm, there are fabulous bike paths, such as a 26km ride to the St. Lawrence Seaway, wilderness walks and to drive local farming communities such as Vankleek Hill home to popular micro-brewery Beau's. As well, community markets are located in Long Sault , Cornwall and Martintown for example, where farmers sell their organic products and dinners can be made available for guests to take home and BBQ.
