This newer cabin sits on 13 acres in Wilderness State Park. It sleeps 4 and has a full kitchen, lots of windows to bring in the sunshine and a large deck overlooking Big Stone Bay on Lake Michigan. You can access the new day park with a wonderful sandy beach just a short walk away. Wilderness offers plenty to do - miles of hiking & biking trails and a great bay for kayaking, swimming or boating.

The space
This gem of a cabin was just constructed in 2017. It is privately owned and sits on 13 beautiful acres in Wilderness State Park near Mackinaw City and is directly across the road from Lake Michigan. It sits on a hill and has wonderful views of the Big Stone Bay. There is a large deck overlooking the Bay and offers ample opportunity to view the variety of wildlife here. Watch the eagles, osprey, loons, deer, fox, coyote, bobcat and maybe you'll be lucky enough to spot a bear. The park offers miles of hiking, biking, snowshoeing and cross country ski trails. The bay is perfect for kayaking, canoeing, sailing, fishing or just enjoying a leisurely swim. Wilderness is just completing a "day park" a short walk away that has a wonderful sandy beach, bathroom facilities and lots of sunshine! The water is crystal clear and the Lake has a nice, sandy bottom that is shallow for quite a distance. It makes for great beach time with the kids.

The cabin comes complete with linens, bedding, dishes, pots and pans, silverware and cooking utensils. There is a toaster, coffee pot, electric oven/stove, griddle, microwave and full size refrigerator. There are 2 large ceiling fans for warm days but there is generally a nice breeze. There is also a picnic table for outdoor dining.

The cabin has 1 bedroom with twin beds, a (queen) sleeper sofa that sleeps an additional 2, beautiful hardwood floors, dining table/chairs, an extra wide shower in the bathroom and a nicely equipped kitchen and lots of windows to let in the light. The cabin is bright and cheery with views of the surrounding area from every room.

We encourage you to bring your boat, kayaks, canoes, bikes or other outdoor "toys" for your pleasure. The Wilderness Park boat launch is across the road for putting in and plenty of parking on the property for your boat/trailer. If you will be using the boat launch, you will need to purchase a park pass at the Rangers Station which will give you access to the park and it's services.

There is a great general store a few miles away but the closest Grocery Store, gas station, and shopping is in Mackinaw City, about 20 minutes away.

If you are interested in visiting some of the local areas, the cabin is a short drive (within 30 minutes) to Mackinaw City, Mackinac Island, Carp Lake, Alanson, Petoskey, Good Hart, Cross Village, Harbor Springs and Indian River. Everything from fine dining to roadside cafe's, lots of antiquing, breweries, wineries, golf, sailing - the list goes on and on! Once you visit, you'll be hooked. This is a place you'll want to come back to year after year. We look forward to hosting you!

Guest access
Entire property and 13 acres.

Other things to note
Due to fire safety issues, there is no firepit at the cabin. The cabin sits on a small hill and it can be very breezy here.

Wildlife disclaimer.

Coming to beautiful Northern Michigan includes the possibility of wildlife encounters. We have midges, spiders, mosquitos, occasionally black flies and an assortment of other insects. We spray regularly to keep them at a manageble level but we also don't want to damage the fragile ecosystem here. Note that where there is water, there will be spiders. They are very industrious and can build back a knocked down web within a day!
They are also great for controlling mosquitos and wasps, which we appreciate.

We treasure the wildness of the North and perhaps that is what attracts you.

Consider yourself lucky if you catch a glimpse of any of our other wild neighbors - black bear, wolves, deer, elk, coyote, fox, bobcats, porcupine, skunks, raccoons, eagles, hawks, squirrels, chipmunks and mice as well as a massive variety of birds.

We ask you to consider this before booking one of our cottages or cabins.

The presence of wildlife is part of the experience here and does not warrant a refund.

My work: Mackinaw Getaways - Owner
I have 5 children and 9 grandchildren. I enjoy the outdoors, yoga and photography and I LOVE Michigan! We grew up vacationing in Northern Michigan. As a result of those wonderful summers, I came to love the outdoors. It was such a part of me that I knew some day I'd have my own place here. One of my kids was married on Mackinac Island a few years ago and that was when I decided to purchase a cabin. I wanted to provide a special place for our children to bring their children in the years to come and found the perfect spot. I began to rent it out a few years later and since then, I started my own business (Mackinaw Getaways) and now help over 20 families rent their own vacation homes. Swim, fish, kayak, canoe, sail, hike, bike, scuba dive, hunt, bird watch - you name it! It's all available there.
