A well presented and charming cottage with a great garden. The comfortable beds, cleanliness and feel to the cottage made a idyllic place to walk out from to explore this part of Devon. Ruth is always very helpful a great host.

Chantry Cottage is very pretty and quirky, offering a well equipped kitchen, a nice bathroom and comfortable beds plus a convenient location for walking into Paignton. We really enjoyed our stay there !

We enjoyed a lovely 5 days at Ruth's home. Spent 2 of them at 3 nearby dog friendly beaches! On one of the days we booked the Round Robin steam train ticket from Paignton > Kingswear > Dartmouth which is an absolute must. Parking can be a little awkward as it's a narrow street, so we decided to leave our Jeep at the bottom of the lane. The cottage is quaint with spacious big bedrooms and cosy downstairs. Would definitely recommend.

Beautiful charming cottage located ~10 minutes from the main beach in Paignton (at a 7-year-old's walking pace). The cottage is simply fitted, but this suited us fine, and maximised the available space. We travelled as a small family (2 primary school age children and parents) and the cottage was a decent size for us. Comfortable and clean. Would definitely recommend Chantry Cottage to anyone wanting to stay in the heart of Torbay, but away from the main strip.

Charming little thatched cottage, clean and well equipped. At one point a guided sightseeing tour rolled up outside (only noticed as I opened a window, they weren't a bother), so it must be quite historic! Chantry Cottage turned out to be ideal for a family with small children because the door catches were too high for the kids to open, so they could be kept downstairs rather than running up and down the slightly uneven steps. Although the cottage is small, it has everything we could have wished for, including a safe and enclosed private rear garden, a washing machine with drying function, and internet TV with Netflix and BBC catch-up. We also variously appreciated a few beach toys and a welcome treasure in the fridge, which was devoured instantly with great glee. Driving and parking can be an issue in the narrow street, but there's a turning point just outside which will do for unloading or quick stops - we ended up parking on the grass a couple of times, which didn't cause a problem, and usually found a space within a few dozen yards or at worst in the next lane. The traffic outside can be a little noisy if you like sleeping with an open window; with closed windows it wasn't a problem at all (we usually closed ours early in the morning when the commuter traffic started to pick up). We would very much like to come back next year!

Chantry Cottage is in a great location near the geopark and coast line (approx 5 to 10min) walk, it also has a great history as one of the oldest cottages in town and is near a heritage site. Ruth our host could not have been more accommodating, she left a lovely bottle for us and also allowed us to check in a day earlier on v.short notice, also alerting us to a lost iPod a few days later. The cottage is very cute for a small family or couple, we had our dog Mavis who loved the enclosed and private back garden, we sat out for breakfast most days and listened to the Sunday church bells. Nice bathroom and like any cottage you need to watch your head if tall in places but Ruth has signed these well anyway. The bedrooms are upstairs and really quiet and comfy

Had a super time at Ruth's. The cottage is about a 10minute walk from the centre of Paignton and the railway station. Day 1 we took a round robin ticket and this included a steam train from Paignton to Dartmouth, a river cruise from Dartmouth to Totnes and a bus from Totnes back to Paignton. A great day out. The following day we caught a mainline train from Paignton to Exeter as it's a scenic route right on the edge of the sea and in the afternoon caught a ferry from Paignton to a very pretty fishing village of Brixham. On our last day we drove to the Devon steam railway and had a ride and then went to Babbacombe miniature village in Torquay which was fabulous. So super location. Ruth left a bottle of prosecco in the fridge and there's a sweet little garden with herbs for you to use and a patio with table and chairs for you to enjoy. Excellent wi fi.
