Quiet neighborhood just over the DC Line. 10-min walk to Metro Orange Line, UM Prince George's Hospital Ctr. Easy driving access to FedEx Field, Baltimore & Annapolis. TOTALLY private space, the entire 2nd level of house. Guests and hosts have separate entrances. 2 BRs , each with queen bed and work space. Wireless Fios internet. 3rd room w/ fold-down sofa bed, Roku TV, Keurig, Microwave, toaster oven, rice cooker, hotpot. No range/oven. BA w/ shower & full tub. W/D on-site. Free parking.

The space
The house has a relatively small footprint on a large, corner lot shaded by mature trees. However, the interior layout uses the space very well. We have reworked the second floor to provide 2 BR, 1 BA and a galley/kitchenette with a sofa and flat screen for relaxing. In our experience, the space is comfortable for a MAX of 4 people (who know each other) so that's how we set our guest limit.

The space has a cozy and snug feel with original hardwood flooring and the sloping ceilings that characterize story-and-a-half dwellings. Town of Cheverly history has it that a baby, a little girl, was born here in the 1930's. The larger bedroom has a queen bed, two work spaces, and a large closet with storage for both clothing and luggage. It also has a window bay that provides a view of the original Vermont slate roof and the huge sweet gum tree growing on the north side of the house. The smaller room also has a queen bed, a desk, one closet for clothes (with an interesting -- we think --built-in shoe rack), and an under-the-eaves closet for storing luggage.

There is one bathroom with enclosed shower and original, black and white spiral mosaic tile floor. We last did updates in the 1990's. Towels are provided as needed. We also stock common items such as shampoo, conditioner, and body wash and, on request, are prepared to provide guests with items such as toothbrushes that they may have forgotten.

We converted the third bedroom into a kitchenette with a sitting area where guests can relax together.

It's not a FULL KITCHEN: no range, oven, or dishwasher. The space has a sink, fridge, toaster oven, microwave, Keurig, and hot pot. We provide you coffee/tea, creamer, sweetener, and breakfast bars. The fridge is also stocked with juice, bottled water, personal pizzas (plain cheese or vegetable) to make your first day as hassle-free as possible while you settle in.

All necessities for light housekeeping during your stay with us are provided, including microwaveable dishes, utensils, paper products, cleaners, and an iron and ironing board.

There is a sofa that converts to a bed in this room as well. linen for it and extra pilllows are in the closet on the landing. The room also has a breakfast area and coffee table. The wall-mounted Roku TV has a connected hub to make it easy for guests to hook up their devices for display on the flat screen if desired.

Cheverly, Maryland, United States

Known for its stone houses, slate roofs, and stately tree-lined streets, the Town of Cheverly (cheverly-md dot gov) is an autonomous municipality with amazing services to residents. Check out the website in parentheses above to learn more about our parks and walking trails. A very peaceful green space, Legion Park, is right across the street from our house. Feel free to stroll, sit on a bench and read from any of a selection of books the community makes available in a little library shelter where people share reading material.

Hello and thanks for considering staying at our place! I have a great appreciation of "place" and I love all the places where life takes me and brings me into new and deeper relationships. I have really enjoyed preparing the house in Cheverly to receive guests and continuing to make it more and more welcoming. I LOVE working on houses. I’ve been enjoying inside work during the winter, getting my fingers in spackling and paint. Now that the weather has turned warm, I relish turning attention to the yard, managing the unruly crop of ivy that taken over! This 1938, Tudor Revival home in Cheverly is very special to me. Our family has owned the house since 1988, and my children’s memories are all caught up in this house. When we moved away in 2003, we rented the whole house to two wonderful families - the first a Unitarian Universalist clergyman and his family, the second an interior designer and her elderly parents, whose later years she wanted to make beautiful. Why am I writing this? I guess because it explains, a little bit, why the house has such a good “spirit” to it. In November of 2016, I came home to Cheverly with the idea of occupying part of the house and remodeling the upstairs to a cozy apartment to share with people from around the world coming to visit nearby Washington, DC. After dealing with several surprises (e.g. having to replace a good portion of the original slate roof!), I put my listing up in April of 2017. When I'm not scraping paint or pulling ivy, I work doing research, currently on people’s experience of disability, health and illness. Looking forward to answering any questions you may have and, if it works for you, hosting you soon! Manon
