A getaway rest house with amazing mountaintop views of Bataan, Zambales, even Manila Bay. Enjoy the infinity pool by day and the cool breeze at night. 30 mins away from Balanga City, Mt. Samat, or Subic. 45 mins away from Bagac beaches such as Montemar and Las Casas.

The mountains of Tala are considered the Baguio of Bataan. A cool alternative for the Summer.

The space

This gated rest house has plenty of room for a group of 10 or a spacious retreat for two. It was built as a place to unwind and unplug. Designed by the owner herself, it is influenced by Balinese design with wood and stained glass details.

It's very quiet away from roadside noises. Beautiful sunrise and sunset. With a starry view at night.

Guest access

Parking space for 3-5 vehicles
There is a working stove, refrigerator, microwave, rice cooker, grill and electronic kettle.
Complete kitchen wares (plates, utensils, pots, pans etc).

A karaoke machine is available on request.
Unlimited access to swimming pool.
The jacuzzi has no hot water so it's repurposed as a kiddie pool.
Feel free to hike around the premises. It's the wilderness so just be careful.
There is no hot water, however the running water is luke warm.
WIFI is available.
There is cellular signal however it can be spotty.

Interaction with guests

I manage this account for my mother, Mayor Gene dela Fuente. I will be corresponding from NYC, but she will be in touch with you when checking in on the day of the reservation.

Also there is a caretaker (Mang Eddie) that lives slightly off-premise that will be there for any questions or needs that may arise.

Other things to note

Plan ahead when it comes to food and gas. There are no nearby grocery stores or gasoline stations in the mountain.

Also the house is very open. And since it's in the forest, bugs tend to come in the house. There are nets and screened windows. But in the rainy season, it's hard to keep them out. We tend to just embrace them as part of the environment.

Just a reminder, this is not a hotel. It is someone's home. Please treat it with respect. Don't steal towels or whatever. Leave it how you found it and you will get glowing reviews. Or else the wrath of airbnb is upon you.

The house was really nice. Architecture's great very instagramable. The caretaker was very helpful. The scenery was super awesome especially during sunrise. All in all it's way better than staying in a resort or a hotel.

We had a great stay at Tala Rest House. It is indeed a bang for the buck, a true value for the money. My family enjoyed our stay there. The place is not that easy to find since it is very secluded but with the accurate directions given by Criena we are able locate with minimal issues. There was a bit of misunderstanding at the onset with the booking situation, but was settled amicably with Criena, who was very accommodating and pleasant to talk to. Though there was no one to check us in when we got there (we had to let ourselves in, though fearing of trespassing), since no one was answering our car beeps, the caretakers was still very helpful and accommodating when they indeed came. The space was more than adequate for our group of 13 adults and 1 baby, actually I think it can easily house even 30 pax comfortably because of how big it is. The kitchen is fully equipped and we were able to do some light cooking. If you are buying stuff from Orani Public Market note that they close really early like 7PM, Puregold in the town proper closes at 8PM as well, and it is around 20-25 mins travel time from the rest house to these places on a vehicle. Also if you are squeamish with bugs like flying ants/moths (big ass gamu-gamo) and tree termites (anay ng puno; as they say it was), then this might not be a place for you, because at night since the lights are on, they tend to gravitate towards the house and the pool. There was like a carpet of gamu-gamo when we retired to sleep in the morning. Though with all these, I would still go back and recommend the place to anyone I know. The pictures we took might do the place justice but it is still much better live. Likewise there was an obvious renovation going on some parts, we heard the owner is planning to expand and put another one and a zip line. Hope we can still book the place and visit again when it is done.

I appreciate Criena's quick response to my questions that allowed me to prepare for the trip. She provided detailed directions which allowed my companions and I to meet up in the rest house though we came from different locations. She was very accommodating and honest on what to expect Thank you for being such a gracious host!
