The River Zen is a 4 season houseboat on the Gatineau River in Wakefield , QC.

The Zen is a small boat with a cabin of 8’x10’. A double mattress -semi firm, very minimalistic furniture, a few shelves and small folding table. There is a roof over the porch as well as the outhouse.

The boat is equipped with a propane furnace for heat for use between mid of september and early June.

There is no electricity, kitchen ,
Running water,
Cooking supplies , or refrigerator.

The space
The River Zen is a minimalist's retreat. Inspired by the Zen movie " Spring, summer, fall, winter, spring". The boat is made to feel like a floating zen retreat house, with a Japanese style curved red roof. The ceiling inside is a masterpiece, with exposed 2'' thick, curvy cedar rafters. The walls are full of character made from blue pine siding, douglas fir trim and finished with an organic citrus oil. All the windows have custom curtains. The boat is completely off grid ( no electricity or running water). There will be a USB bar the y charger pack with a light during your stay.

The cabin is great for 2 people at only 8'x10' and the furnishings include a double mattress and a thick duvet. Fresh linens. There is a propane furnace that heats up very quickly (September to June).

There is a fold down table. Outside there are is a small patio table or camping chairs. The Zen is a perfect space for yoga and meditation, unwinding with a book, getting cozy and sleeping! During the day; the bed can be strapped to the wall to allow for full use of the floor space, which is beautiful Cherry hardwood.

The bathroom is an outdoor outhouse with a covered roof on the side deck of the boat. (its chilly:) The toilet is a dry sawdust composting toilet. Very easy to use, no odour and mess free.

There are no cooking facilities on the boat, no food or drinks are provided. We do provide drinking water from the Wakefield spring. And we ask that no bbq's, candles or fires of any kind be used on or near the boat or dock. Please be mindful to clean any food items or surfaces to avoid staining the wooden counters and to avoid insects. There is no fridge or cooler. We recommend eating out or bringing simple/ cold food to prepare. . Coffee shop is 5 min drive or 40ish minute walk.

Parking is across the street from the boat and there is a pathway down to the dock.
The Zen is neighbours with my other airbnb houseboat the River Den.

My name is Bonnie and I am the captain of the River Den, the River Zen and The Nellie. Very excited about hosting guests on my boats. I'm the daughter of a québécois log driver and I grew up on the river in Low Qc, driving boats and living on islands. I am passionate about artistic building and designing dens! My full time job is taking care of my boats and cleaning them for your stays! Im also usually working on a construction project of my own, including an island meditation retreat and my next houseboat. I have been an entrepreneur since the age of 19 and plan on continuing to explore my creativity through inspiring and creative business endeavours. I enjoy foraging wild goodies, playing huckleberry Finn, falconry with our 2 birds of prey Shagyal (Harris Hawk) and Nellie (eagle owl ).
