It’s pretty much the minimum between you and wilderness. Our Tipi Experience in Northern Ontario is paired down, rich in spirit over luxury, a probe into wanting less. The 18-foot tipi sits on a beautifully-private switch-back of the Amable du Fond River flowing out of Algonquin Park. It welcomes you to explore the surrounding wilderness whether by foot or by canoe. Perfect for immersing in fall's glorious colours. Firewood, hibachi, sand beach. Special prices during the week.

The Buffalo Farm is a gorgeous eco-farm situated on 500 of the most beautiful acres imaginable directly on the northern cusp of Algonquin Park near Mattawa, Ontario. The Amable du Fond River winds its way back and forth for two kilometres across the most remote part of the farm. Spaced along the river are three unique, hand-crafted structures available for rent. The farm is also a sanctuary for buffalo and the many wilderness creatures that make this place their home.

Our 18-foot, custom-built tipi sits right at the edge of the Amable du Fond River as it flows north out of Algonquin Park. Backed by fields of grazing buffalo and surrounded by the majestic forest, it offers a truly wonderful Canadian wilderness experience.

PLEASE NOTE: The Buffalo Farm Tipi is best suited for two adults and up to two children (four adults in a squeeze). Tents can be pitched beside the tipi to accommodate larger numbers. Prices listed on Airbnb are for one person and children under two. There is an extra charge for each additional guest. This is the only way we can make this work as a small family business. Please be sure to account for all extra guests when booking. Prices as listed include HST.
PLEASE NOTE: This accommodation is closed from November through April 15. There is no heat source inside the tipi. Late September/October it is likely to be very cold. In this period, it should be treated as a winter camping experience.
PLEASE NOTE: This property is not available for any commercial purpose without prior consent.

Step out the front door of The Buffalo Farm Tipi and you are just feet from the lovely Amable du Fond River, generally a lazy-flowing river with white sand beaches offering very private spots for summertime picnicking, swimming or setting out in canoes (available to rent). Trails in the wider area but very close to us (Eau Claire Gorge, Algonquin Park, Samuel de Champlain Park) offer many options for hikes long and short - hiking boots in warmer weather and snow shoes in winter.

Visit Algonquin Park/ Kioshkowi Lake where you can enjoy a day paddle on the lake or a swim at the beach! Only a few minute drive from us - this is an incredible starting point for exploring the interior of Algonquin Park.
In all seasons expect to see wild birds and small mammals, stunning sunsets shimmering on the river, and a canopy of brilliant stars at night.
Things to do in the area
- Algonquin Park ( campsite, canoe trips, kayak trips, swimming, fishing)
- Algonquin North Outfitters ( kayak & canoe rentals/ guided trips: call
- Lake Kioshkowi ( fishing, swimming, canoeing, kayaking)
- Samuel de Champlain Provincial Park - great hiking trails with scenic views (outstanding fall colours)

Fall is a very special time with its tapestry of brilliant colour as far as the eye can see. It is a favourite time for nature photography, bird watching, hiking and canoeing. A crisp early-morning canoe on the river is an absolute must as the rising sun gradually dispels the night’s lingering fog.

All in all, The Buffalo Farm Tipi is the ideal escape – perfect for meditating, reflecting, connecting with nature, reading, writing, art and music making, napping, holding ceremony, deepening your relationship with spouse, family or friends.
