Relax in a charming vintage 1920s lake cottage and let your cares fade away. Perfectly located on a dead-end street with a cut-through to Warren Dunes Park less than a block away. Hike the dunes and walk 10 minutes to the beach. Wineries, breweries, restaurants, antiquing and artsy shops are within a mile. 2 cozy bedrooms, front sleeping porch, back coffee porch, and one bathroom with great water pressure. Please be aware there is no dishwasher, washer/dryer, or tub.
There are two cozy bedrooms each with a double bed, dresser, closet and ceiling fan. There is a roomy front enclosed sleeping porch with two sets of bunk beds. Two of the mattresses are firm and two are softer. These can be used for adults but are perfect for kids. There is also a queen pull out bed in the spacious living room. The cottage has room for everyone to spread out. The kitchen has a table for 4. The back enclosed all season porch also has a dining table as well as a seating area for coffee, cocktails, bird watching or reading. The back deck is smaller but has chairs and there is an outdoor table should you wish to dine outside in the yard.
There is a charcoal grill off the back deck for grilling. A fire pit in the huge yard has an ample supply of firewood provided. The cottage is cooled by window air-conditioners and fans. There is no dishwasher. There is only one small bathroom with a stand up shower and no bathtub but the water pressure is great! Eight adults may find it challenging to share one bath. The house is better suited to 4 adults and 4 kids. The house is decorated with some of the unique finds from the basement and attic and some of the original furniture remains too. Read the Owner's Profile for more background information on this original property.
Entire house except for the attic which is not finished and unsafe for children. The basement is accessed from the outside and is for storage only and has the electric panel should a breaker get tripped.
Interaction with guests
I manage the property from Naperville. Please text or call me at (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) on arrival and if you have any questions or concerns or would like recommendations of the area!
Other things to note
BYO TV access. The living room has a smart TV + internet but no channels. There are a few movies and games and puzzles to enjoy.
There is no garbage disposal so please take care not to put any food scraps into the sink.
One towel per person is provided but if you are staying a week, you will likely need to use the laundromat located in Bridgeman 5 miles up the road or bring extra towels.
If you have specific pillow requirements, please bring your own(but make sure to take it home). All sheets are 100% cotton.
This is a simple but lovely little place. If you imagine that a family 90 years ago enjoyed it for their summers at Lake Michigan and now you can too, you will appreciate all it has to offer. If you prefer a modern condo, this may not be the best fit for you.
Must be a minimum of 25 years old to rent.
It is my hope you will relax and enjoy this special place with all it's charm. I will appreciate if you wash your dishes, hang up damp towels on the hooks to dry and use care when opening and closing the 100 year old windows and doors. Please leave the property as you found it and I will be very happy.
From Sep 1 - Nov 13, 2017 the minimum stay is 2 nights.
In an earlier career I traveled to many places including Alaska, Africa and Antarctica all extraordinary for their natural beauty, wildlife and unique characteristics. Now I'm a business owner of Kristin's Closet, a women's clothing boutique I created and operate as a one woman show in Naperville, IL and the mom of two teens. I fell in love with Harbor County a few years ago as a place to escape from our hectic daily lives. Taken by the beautiful scenery, magical beaches, endless small towns, breweries, wineries, antiquing, and fabulous local authentic restaurants -- all easy to explore while wearing your comfy clothes. Does it get any better? I've been searching for my own little place and in 2016 found a vintage 1920 summer cottage on a large lot backing to Warren Dunes State Park that had been in one family for 5 generations. With a lot of elbow grease, I took care to preserve this Sawyer summer lake cottage. I worked with everything original that could be saved. I am excited to share its history and charm with you.
