Dear Airbnb Friends,
St. Thomas was recently struck by Hurricanes Irma and Maria within two weeks. We were fortunate that our home, Arcadia, was not severely damaged. We are working hard to help friends and the island recover as quickly as possible.
For these reasons, we've taken Arcadia off of the calendar temporarily. Thanks to all of our guests who have checked in with their well-wishes. Hope to see you again soon when our island is back to its beautiful self!

Our house is very open to the view and the outdoors. We don't need air-conditioning -- there's almost always a breeze and we have lots of fans! Windows are screened but the doors are not.
The loft bedroom is accessed from a stair ladder and requires some caution to use, so it's not suitable for small children or someone who would have difficulty climbing.
Guests can access the living room, dining room, kitchen, and porches on both sides of the house, as well as the two bedrooms and bath. The sitting room has cable TV and Netflix. The kitchen has a gas stove, and there's a microwave and toaster oven.
We live on premises in a separate section of the house with a private entrance.
Other things to note
We have two dogs who live in the fenced backyard below the house, away from the main house. Our adopted cat lives outside, and needs to be kept out of the house because of family members with allergies. And no smoking, please!
The small faucet on the right side of the kitchen sink is filtered water for drinking. We use that to fill the pitchers in the fridge.
If you have garbage, you can tie up the bag and put it in the big garbage can next to the utility room, and we'll take it away.
We usually close up the shutters or windows when we leave in case it rains.
Our water comes from rain catchment and is stored in a cistern below the house. It's a precious resource on the island! Please be conservative with the water, especially when showering and washing dishes. If you want to be super-green, you can help by keeping showers under 5 minutes and even turning the water off while you soap up. It's truly appreciated!
There's a family of hawks (American Kestrals) that lives on the porch. They like to perch in the rafters after dark. They build a nest in the corner once a year, and if there are babies they can get a little protective.
- Our outside cat must stay out of the house.
- We use cisterns to catch rainwater, so please conserve!
We strongly recommend renting a car for your stay. Our home is off the beaten path, so we can meet guests at the airport and lead them to our place. We're happy to give advice and directions as you start your visit.
I am an architect and have lived on St. Thomas for more than 30 years. My wife Ellie teaches Kindergarten and our two sons have grown up here on the island. We look forward to sharing this beautiful place with our guests.
