Great location
100% of recent guests gave the location a 5-star rating.
This is a comfortable log cabin with great attention to detail set on our ranch where we have been for six generations. Little Otter Creek has some good pan-sized fish. There are miles of hiking, swimming in the reservoir, bird watching; scenic and wild life views surround you. This is for the nature lover, those who love the outdoors and all it offers. There is also an opportunity to ride for an additional fee mid-June to mid-Sept at our Sweet Grass Ranch.

The space
There is a great deal of history here--this is the first Norwegian Lutheran settlement in Montana, dating to 1895. My great grandfather settled here in 1880, on Porcupine Butte. Our grandchildren are the 6th generation here.

Guest access
You may hike anywhere on the ranch. We ask that you do not drive your vehicle around because of noxious weed problems.

Other things to note
We do ask a pet fee of $15 and ask that you keep your pet leashed when walking around livestock, for your pet's sake as well as the livestocks' sake.

Location

Big Timber, Montana, United States

We are a very unique area. Almost every rancher here is a direct descendant of the original settlers; there is minimal turnover. The kids are raised the same so discipline is a minor and often unnecessary detail. We are something of a step back in history when kids were an integral part of every working family.

Bill's Place at Melville is open Thurs-Sun from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. He and Sandy serve delicious meals. There is a good 9 hole golf course in Big Timber, a theatre, lots of places to eat, including The Grand, which has a state wide reputation. We also have our share of bars, a staple in Montana towns. There is a nice park in town also.
