Marutake An is right by the famous world heritage, Nijo Castle. I have renovated this traditional machiya inherited from my ancestors as a guesthouse. In the house, there are beautiful pots that my family has kept for years. Right outside the main entrance of the house is the backyard of Nijo Castle, and it is perfect for jogging and taking quiet walks early in the morning. We have a parking lot around the corner from the house for guests who arrive by car.

This house is a government approved guesthouse so it is safe and reliable. I hope all my guests enjoy their stay in this house that I love.

This was a perfect choice for us. The location was super convenient, a 10-15 minute walk from the Nijo train station, from where you're connected with Kyoto station and other lines. Besides there are places to eat and buy groceries (minimarkets) on main street around the corner, and you are just by the famous and gorgeous Nijo Castle, one of the main attractions of Kyoto. Also walkable distance to one of the main arteries of the city that crosses Kyoto W-E all the wayto the famous Gion district. The city is large but very walkable and all of it interesting and beautiful! The apartment was perfectly neat and very beautiful, and had everything needed (traditional style tatami plus one room with "western-style" 2 beds fits 5 well, if in a snuggly way as always in Japan). Washer/drier combo was especially great to have! All the instructions for appliances were clear and in English. We'd deffinitely recomend it!

We enjoy a lovely stay in this cosy apartment. Great location. Just a few mins walk to Nijo castle. A great chance to feel a real home in Japanese traditional style. Highly recommended.

Quiet and friendly neighbourhood. The bedsheet and duvet cover of the futon was soft and smooth. Generally a good stay!

We stayed at Ichi's place for 2 nights. We arrived in the dark but Ichi's detailed directions meant we found the house very easily. The house is traditional Japanese style, and although not a large house, it was great for a base for 4 adults to explore the city. It's just a short walk from Nijo station and very close to the castle. Thanks Ichi!

Thank you for having us. The house is such a pleasure to stay in. Truly local experience. A beautiful japanese street of tiny houses and you stay in one of them. Everything is thought of and prepared for your stay. House is extremely clean bed linens are wonderful everything was perfect. The real Japanese touch is priceless. We stayed 5 people all together so you dont get to have a living room area since it turns into bedroom but its still adorable. Great location to have morning jogging as well. The only downside would be the communication with downtown area which is either 30 min walk or 20usd for a cab but its just a small inconvenience and I think it was the best airbnb I stayed so far in Japan.

Hello, I’m Ichi! I was born and raised in Kyoto. I used to be a bank clerk before, but I am currently managing Kyoto traditional houses (machiya). Kyoto has many sightseeing spots, but once you enter the alleyway, it has been a very relaxing time. I would be happy if you could feel such a calm time flow at this "Marutake An". Please come and stay at my place.
