Traditional cottage listed by English Heritage for architectural interest (original flooring, large sash windows), situated down a quiet alley (no traffic or street noise). The cottage is in Summertown, one of the most desirable residential areas, with artisan bakeries, restaurants and super markets etc. It is a 10 minute walk to the city centre. Comfortable and clean, but not new! Packed with a local family's antiques, art and books.

The space

We have tried to keep the cottage simple and traditional, so it is full of nice period details and will appeal to guests who prefer old-world charm to modern luxury. NB this is not a modern hotel set-up, we have everything we feel we need in the house; all the appliances work but some can be a little temperamental (but we can talk you through any questions). The presentation is not slick/ professional, instead the house has been tastefully modernised without harming the character; it is exceptionally elegant with unique art works and antiques. What the cottage may lack in finesse it makes up for in originality.

Check in times: although we aim to be flexible about check-in times we might need to charge extra if you are arriving late at night (to cover the cost of hiring a baby sitter for the co-host so they can let you in)!

Upstairs sleeps four: one double bedroom with 1 x (fairly high) double bed (an original four-poster) and one single bedroom with a modern single bed that converts into two singles (via a pull-out bed stored underneath). Please note that the single bedroom is small and when the pull out bed is up there is very little space in there for anything else; something to consider if you would like to make an extended stay. We would not recommend two people sleeping in there for a long time unless they are very accommodating!
Downstairs is the living/ dining room. The living room has a sofa, television (and Wifi) and bookshelves while the dining room has an extendable dining room table and chairs.
The kitchen is well equipped with cutlery, dinnerware, basic pots and pans, microwave, gas cooker (with electric oven) fairly new dish washer and washing machine.
To the rear there is an enclosed (slightly scruffy) cottage garden which guests are welcome to use and there is also a small unused wild garden to the front where the rubbish and recycling are stored.

Guest access

Guests have full access to come and go as they please during their stay.

Interaction with guests

A member of the family will be close by and can be contacted if needed urgently. Someone may drop by to mow the lawn but we can discuss that in person.

A beautiful little cottage. We were four people (one couple and two other adults) staying in Oxford for a wedding, and the house was perfect for what we needed. It's walking distance to Oxford city centre (c. 30 minutes), or a short bus ride or taxi - very easy. Odette was very helpful at check-in and went out of her way to be available when we arrived slightly earlier than we had agreed. Thank you, Mrs Christie and Odette!

We had a great time at this property, which is very well situated and spacious. Bus stop right outside and major supermarkets and shopping street 100m away. Great hosts and very helpful. Look forward to staying again soon!

Attractive traditional cottage set back from the main road (behind a row of shops in Summertown) on a small, quiet private passage. There is one parking space at the end of the passage but this is often taken, so essentially there is no parking (fine if you can park elsewhere in Oxford or are coming on public transport: lots of buses). Cottage was clean and beautifully decorated, but quite chilly (this was in July) and we couldn't get complicated heating system to work. The owner's daughter is a truly lovely person and was very helpful to us, including when our toddler dropped a key through a gap in the wooden floorboards. (We had been warned that it wasn't ideal for small children!)
