Tranquility lives up to its name. Peace and quiet are the two most frequent words guests use in describing their visit. Staying in this wooded island neighborhood, you will truly come to understand why locals often refer to time here as "Edislow." Less than 4 miles from the beach and 1 mile from the SC State Park Boat Landing, hiking/bike trails, and Interpretive Center, this is the place to unplug from the world and reconnect with family and friends while enjoying island life.

The space

Down a quaint dirt road, surrounded by big oaks, palmettos, and pine trees, this island-cottage style home on stilts lives much larger than its 1200 sq ft. With hardwood flooring and open floor plan, Tranquility is perfectly suited for family vacations, intimate getaways and small group retreats. Enjoy morning coffee and meals on the screened porch or lounge in the hammock with your favorite book. You will be treated to the sights and sounds of Lowcountry wildlife on the covered, wrap-around porch.

Guest access

After a relaxing day on the beach, enjoy the heated outdoor shower, or play a game of ping-pong downstairs. Then head up to prepare local seafood in the well-equipped kitchen. It has everything you will need!

Interaction with guests

If you need us, we can usually be there in an hour or two, but generally we plan to let you enjoy Tranquility with your family and friends.

Leah proudly went a little label-maker crazy, so everything is well marked (to put it mildly). You wont have any trouble finding things in this house.

Other things to note

Tranquility is meant to be a retreat from busy life. Off the beaten path, it uses well water with a reverse osmosis system, and guests must take trash to the local dump. Tranquility does not have internet connection, and cell service can be spotty. Though we do have a limited collection of DVDs, Tranquility does not have cable TV and the digital TV antenna is absent or not functional most of the time.

We want you to enjoy your vacation, and we understand that people find joy and relaxation in different ways. If unplugging makes you uncomfortable, please look at the many other options available on Edisto. It is a wonderful island and beach, and other properties are sure to have what you are looking for.

Edisto island was a great pick for a SC getaway for just the two of us, and this place made it as peaceful as we could've imagined. It's definitely fit for a crew, the price was just so good! Don't be thrown off by the "no wifi" or that it's a few miles from the beach. The location is in the less developed area of the island--meaning less traveled roads, wildlife, gorgeous views of live oaks with hanging moss, and peace! The beach is still very accessible from the home, just a few minutes and you can drive botany bay rd (HIGHLY recommend viewing the beach there), or pull up at one of the many access points at edisto beach. $5 to get into the park where the beach has camping and cabins, but was just worth it for a couple hours of swimming & lounging. There's a grocery close by for most things, and Chris was quick to let me know about Flowers Seafood for our low country boil (the place has a big pot in the kitchen!). The evening storms on the porch were my favorite part. Thanks you two!

This house is surrounded by trees and foliage, and the wildlife is right outside the door. The reception is spotty, but a welcome break. This place is a great one to unplug and just be in the South Carolina coastal woods.

We absolutely loved staying at Tranquility!! The location was perfect, a close drive to the beach but far enough out to have a nice peaceful place to relax and enjoy family time. The house is beautiful and has everything you need! As long as you are comfortable being unplugged from wifi and cable this is the perfect place! We will definitely be back!!!!

It was just what we expected and perfect for a weekend getaway for friends. The house was private and secluded while also being really close to restaurants and the beach. Very clean and organized! I would definitely go back!

Great private area, only a few minutes drive to the beach and restaurants. Very clean and comfortable. There are movies, games, and ping pong to keep you entertained if it rains. Would definitely stay here again!

This place was absolutely beautiful, very private and secluded but still close to everything on the island. It is not a walkable point to the beaches or island amenities but the home, cleanliness and owners availability and communication make for any deficiencies in location. It was a culinary dream, they have everything you can dream of to cook and prepare your meals. All you need to bring is yourself to have an amazing time. Thanks Chris!

We are Sandlappers, which is an old, local term for natives of the SC Lowcountry. We like outdoor activities, like hiking, fishing, and swimming in the ocean. Our pass times include reading, listening to music and podcasts of all types, and visiting art museums and historic sites. Sharing our home has not been easy, but we view it as an opportunity to learn more about ourselves, each other, and other people. We think Tranquility is a special place, and we hope you enjoy being our guests here!
