Beautiful 3 bedroom, 2.5 bathroom house with finished basement, large outdoor deck and gorgeous yard available in a very desirable East side Iowa City neighborhood. Close to downtown, grocery store, and 2 minutes off of I-80.

The space

Ellen and Tom are renting out their amazing house while they are in Michigan for the summer. They have owned the house for 40 years and it is in great condition; Tom is a wonderful furniture maker, there are beautiful handmade pieces throughout the house, including the master bed and many of the dressers and stands. Ellen is a master gardener and you can see the effort in the backyard, a gorgeous summer space to relax with a full deck right off the kitchen. You have access to the gas grill and the yard is fenced in if you have a dog you'd like to bring.

This is a ranch house with a finished basement. The living room is cozy but spacious, right around from the very large kitchen with dining table and all of the cooking tools you could need. Lots of light from the sliding door in the kitchen directly out to the patio and backyard.

There are 3 bedroom on the first floor, all with a queen size bed. The master bedroom has a private bathroom with shower, and there is a shared hallway bathroom with shower and bathtub.

The basement is finished and very spacious with a large fireplace, lush carpeting, flat screen TV with cable hooked up.

There is a garage adjacent to the house with ample driveway parking for two cars.

Washer and dryer in the basement - free to use.

This is a beautiful house with a lot of character and very friendly neighbors should you want to socialize. The spacious private backyard gives you a lot of room for play or if you have pets.

Guest access

We ask that you not park in the garage, and leave the left side of the driveway open in case our neighbor needs to leave his truck there (he wouldn't have access to the house.)

Other things to note

Our neighbor parks his truck in the left side of the garage when the weather is bad, so we ask that the left side of the driveway be left free. There's still ample room on the right - our neighbors are great and we all take care of each other!

His was just what we wanted. We were there to see some friends that have been staying at the Ronald McDonald house for the past 100 days We were able to invite them over for a grill out and use the backyard with both their kids and ours. We hav(URL HIDDEN)year olds. The extra bedrooms and downstairs made it super easy for our kids to have there own space. Definitely recommend for families

Our family was in Iowa City under very stressful circumstances. The Oakes home gave us a place to gather with extended family, recharge, and rest prior to returning to the hospital. The home is very clean and comfortable. Jessica and Ellen made everything so easy for us. We sincerely appreciated their hospitality. A great home and wonderful AirBnB property.

This place is a great place to stay. I enjoyed the family touches in this very well cared for and the garden in the back is great place to sit and enjoy the quiet. Everything was as advertised and I would definitely stay here again.

Jessica User ProfileJessica is a superhost.

I am a 37 year old single mother who has recently moved from Boston to Chicago with my son, Charlie. We now split our time between Chicago and Iowa City where my family lives. I was formerly the Operations Manager for the Barbara Lynch Gruppo, an independent restaurant group in Boston and a company I worked with for 8 years.

My involvement with Airbnb has grown organically, beginning in Boston after I left my job and posted my place in order in order to take advantage of my career gap and do some traveling. Ultimately I decided to move us to Chicago to be closer to family, and I started renting our Chicago apartment during our trips to Iowa City. These trips grew more and more frequent as both of my parents' health rapidly declined. Airbnb turned out to be a unique way to stay unemployed during this difficult family time, and I now have four properties listed. My mom passed away just this past September and I'm incredibly grateful that Airbnb has provided me with a way to spend as much time with my family as possible this past year. It has truly been a gift.

This fall I began the MBA program at the University of Iowa, and am loving being in school again. I'm also enjoying a return to my hometown (something I never thought I would voluntarily do) and being able to spend time with my Dad.

It's been an unusual journey and none of it would have been possible without Airbnb. I am a huge proponent of Airbnb and the sharing communities and an absolute acolyte. I've met so many incredible people and families through Airbnb, and I really look forward to sharing my spaces with you.
