Relax in this comfortable small (approximately 425 square feet) dog friendly one-bedroom apartment in sunny Blue Lake. Brand new construction includes a fully equipped kitchen, bathroom with shower, comfortable living and dining room space and bedroom with queen bed. Air mattress is available for additional guests and can be set up in living/kitchen area. Private entrance with deck right outside your door with table and chairs for outdoor enjoyment.

The space
The apartment is attached to the main house where I live with my family, but you will enjoy total privacy, while having access to me when desired. Your private entrance is a short walk on a pleasant, well-lit pathway through the back yard, and you have a dedicated parking space just outside the fence. The living room includes a comfortable seating arrangement. You'll have access to high speed internet via wifi. You’ll also be able to prepare full meals if you desire since the kitchen includes a small refrigerator, stove, full size oven, plus a microwave. The bedroom, with queen-sized bed connects to bathroom with shower.
The apartment is connected to my home so you may hear sounds of people on other side of wall. We are generally a quiet family and do not stay up late. It is quieter in the apartment bedroom when the door is shut. The entire space is most comfortable for 2 people and cozy if adding 1-2 more people. If you need the airbed, it is located on the top shelf in the bedroom closet. It needs to be set up in living room. Can store blown up along wall in bedroom during day or deflate each time you use it.

Guest access
The entrance, yard and garden is a shared area. Park in the gravel parking lot right outside the gate. Go through the gate, and then you will pass the entrance to my home on the left, continue walking the stone path, pass a small deck on the left and garden area which leads you toward the west side of the house and to the small wooden stairs that lead to the apartment. The Front door is at the top of the stairs on your left. You access the apartment via a code you will punch in at the front door. The punch pad is below the door handle on the front door. Punch in 4 digits (provided to you after booking the place) then turn lever to the right to open and to lock punch in same digits and turn lever to left.

Other things to note
I have a very friendly female Aussie mix dog. She is a good watch dog and probably will bark when she sees new people coming in, but she never bites. I also have a black female cat. Neither of these animals have access to the apartment. The apartments is dog friendly. I do not allow cats but am willing to make special arrangements. I do charge an additional $10 dollars per night per animal as a pet fee for the extra wear and tear of the space with pets. If you stay more than 6 days, this fee can be adjusted. Please use the provided blankets and towels to protect the furniture when your dog sits on them. Also clean up all dog poop that is produced on the property.

Location

Blue Lake, California, United States

Blue Lake is a small, mixed, artsy community. The neighborhood is quaint and walkable, and Arcata—home of Humboldt State University—is a quick 10-minute drive on Highway 299. From the property we have a view of the beautiful surrounding hills, and plenty of trees and nature.

Although it’s a relatively small hamlet, Blue Lake is a destination for many. The Logger Bar is one of the town’s favorite attractions with several musical events happening throughout the week. Dell Arte (School of Physical Theater) is a short walk away, and there are often theatrical performances being presented there. During the summer months we enjoy music festivals, which take place near the school. Beginning in late June and running through July is the famous "Mad River Festival" featuring lots of music, along with outdoor and indoor theatrical performances, and more. Mad River Brewing Company is a microbrewery and small restaurant serving up artisan beers on their terrace, and often they have live music. Blue lake Casino, a 3-minute drive away or 15-minute walk, has a very nice restaurant and lounge/Bar.

There are two gas stations in town, and simple groceries can be purchased at one of their mini-marts. A more extensive selection of groceries can be found at Murphy’s market which is about 5 minutes down the highway, and of course in nearby Arcata.

If interested, you’ll find plenty of places nearby to walk, hike and enjoy nature. The Mad River is very close and has great trails and swimming spots. The water is most enjoyable May-August.

I have lived in Blue Lake for 18 years and in Humboldt County for over 30. I love small town living, spending time outdoors, traveling, gardening, riding my bike, spending time with kids, friends and animals. I know lots about this community and good places to visit inside and out.
