My home is a traditional gated Bajan bungalow with a guard wall around the property and a front verandah which faces the Bridgetown Harbour. It is on a main road. There is easy access to the local taxis, called ZR vans, and blue government buses. The bus stop to Bridgetown is about 150 meters from the house.
A Little About Barbados...
Barbados is a colorful island retreat. Simply perfect for a getaway or an extended stay. The temperature is around 84 - 88 degrees F. The rainy season starts in September and ends in November. There are miles and miles of sandy beaches: Brandons,Brighton, Paradise and Batts Rock are all on the same stretch. Brandons is close to the Port. These beaches have aqua water and are quiet, and in my opinion under rated. Then there is the ever popular and busier Brown's Beach/Carlisle Bay just over the Bridge in Bridgetown. This is another long, white, sandy beach that goes all the way to the Hilton Hotel. Come stay, get away.
Whether you spend 4 nights, a week or a month here at OceanView you will be sad to leave. You'll find elegant fixtures, a fresh and new interior design inspired by classic settings, professionally designed by a Bajan architect and a Canadian interior designer.
We offer: Wireless Internet, Unlimited Local Phone Service, 40 " LCD TV, Cable, bathroom with hot water, washing machine, a fully equipped kitchen with a fridge, microwave, stove, coffee percolator and a six-place dinner service. In effect, a home away from home.
Hop on a 'ZR' van, two minutes away from the house and you'll be in Bridgetown in 10 minutes. The fare is 2$ Bajan, and you can travel from the nearest to the furtherest point for the same price pone way.
The Barbados dollar is tied to the US dollar at a rate of US$1 = BB$2. S
Airport shuttle, pick up/drop off is extra. Cost $50 BDS
Stay Play Getaway...
OceanView Vista overlooks the beautiful Bridgetown Port where all cruise liners dock. Lounge on our veranda to take in this sight. It is most spectacular at night during the tourist season which runs from November to April.
Swim, snorkel, scuba dive, sight see, hike - you name it, Barbados has it. There are myriad coral reefs to explore and sunken shipwrecks to view.
Our friendly property manager, Joan, will greet you on arrival and take you to the supermarket to get your groceries. You can always reach her by cell phone at any time if you need help.
Guests have the run of the house! The property manager will help by taking you to supermarket and to 'Q in the Community' (a local hangout) for locals and tourists, and best of all, its free.
Interaction with guests
I am not usually at home when guests are there, but the property manager, Joan, keeps in close contact with guests. Jerry is our friendly taxi driver, available for airport transfer, short or longer trips.
Other things to note
There is a scenic ride on Sundays leaving Independence Square at 2 PM. The tour takes you to various venues around the island. You can take a picnic lunch with you.
Then there is the Mount Gay Visitor's Center on Spring Garden Highway. You'll get to sample Bajan rum. It is close to Brandon's Beach.
Make sure you visit Welchman Hally Gully, a botanical garden, and in the same area, Harrison's Cave.
St Nicholas Abbey is another 'must'.
This is an historic plantation house with a museum, a sugar and rum bond, a flower and herb garden and a gully.
No smoking pease. Turn off fans and lights when going out. Wash sandy feet at outside faucet before entering the house.
I'm a Bajan with English and Canadian connections, having lived approximately two decades in each place. I love travelling and engaging in fun escapades - sand dune bashing in Qatar, hiking in South Korea and Bali, scuba diving in Hawaii and snorkeling in Barbados, and willing to try new activities. I am energetic and sociable. I enjoy outdoor activities and usually hike and explore the neighborhoods I visit. When I travel I get around the city on foot and use local
transport. I love cooking and am quite adept at conjuring up a variety of creative plant-based recipes using local fruits and veggies. I have a cousin who said, "Patsy eats anything that is green."
Oh, and one more hobby. Sewing! I buy fabric as souvenirs and make my own clothes.
My home is cozy and welcoming. I'm a friendly host and will do my best to make your stay a pleasant and memorable one.
My life motto? "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."
