Wake up to stunning Château views from every window & door, 17th century fireplace, wealth of period features & antique furnishings, balanced with modern comforts like wi fi, dishwasher & well appointed kitchen. Our 2bed house dating back to 1701, is approx 1 hr from Poitiers & Limoges airports, in the heart of a picturesque village dominated by a 15th Century Château. Conveniently located with immediate access to village amenities; quaint bars, curiosity shops, restaurants and riverside cafes.
The house dates back to 1701 & was originally part of the Château estate. It was brought as a ruin in 2015, without any running water or sanitation, even floors were missing, it took a further 2yrs to restore to its current glory. The sympathetic restoration preserved many of its 300 year old features. So character is in abundance. Mixing period features with modern day comforts like good insulation, electric heating, large range cooker, double glazing, handmade doors & windows made to match the originals, an amazing restored fireplace with modern convector feature stove.
Our house is situated in the heart of a stunning village, on the village square, making it accessible to all the local amenities, literally on its doorstep. In front of the house is a 'wine bar', cave, where you can buy high quality wine and either take it away or enjoy it on the premises, sitting by the 16th Century fire place or on the shady terrace at the foot of the fairytale Chateau. A few strides further and there are curiosity shops, butcher, baker, tabac, pharmacy, florist not to mention eateries and a couple of rustic bars.
Several bars and cafes are located alongside the river that traverses the village, allowing for stunning views whilst enjoying some excellent French cuisine or fine wines. Some also have views over the Château.
There isn't any outside space with this property, but the abundance of public, shady, riverside locations for picnics, sitting, reading etc, all on your doorstep truly make up for it. Alternatively, enjoy the outside space provided at the local cafés and restaurants etc, they're only a few strides away.
There are numerous parking spaces in front of the property, although non allocated to the property, there is rarely an issue with parking.
The village has excellent transport links for those who wish to travel further afield. The world famous town of Cognac is only 40 mins away, historic town of Poitiers is 50 mins away, the town of limoges famous for its pottery is about an hour away. Bordeaux & the world famous wine region is less than two hours away. For animal lovers a fantastic & highly regarded monkey safari park 'valley of the monkeys' is 40 minutes away.
The whole property is rented out.
Interaction with guests
I'm usually available via email or phone, but as you're renting the whole property I'm not on site.
Other things to note
The house is well insulated & has electric convector heating for keeping you snug in cooler months.
Longer let's considered.
Our property has a dishwasher but no washing machine, although there is a laundrette within 5 minutes.
Our TV has a built in DVD player & can be connected to your gadgets to stream via the wi fi, although it's not connected to a satellite etc.
Much of our furniture are original antiques, several hundred years old, so may not be as robust as more modern furniture.
Our property has no outside space, so may not be suited to those who want access to a garden. However, there are plenty of beautiful and picturesque communal outside spaces in and around the riverbanks that traverse the village, plus it's riverside bars, cafés, picnic and play areas, all are barely a few strides to couple of minutes walk away.
TV is not linked to satellite, so ok for watching DVD's or attaching your device to our wi fi but not for watching regular TV.
There are numerous parking spaces in front of the property (approx 30), although non allocated to the property, there is rarely an issue with parking.

Hi, despite working full time in London, one of my main hobbies is sympathetically restoring and renovating derelict French properties and transforming them into stylish homes with bundles of character. Both properties on here I've remotely project managed, spending as much time in my French place as possible to get the projects finished, furnished and ready to rent out to holiday makers. Neither had running water nor sanitation when I brought them, even floors and walls were hard to come by!
Chosen for their ease of access and proximity to local amenities; great restaurants, friendly bars, quirky shops, riverside cafes, bundles of history and amazing ancient stone architecture. There's plenty to do when you get here.
I love the picturesque village of Verteuil-sur-Charente dominated by its fairytale château and neighbouring, more rural and tranquil, village of Poursac and consider them my second home.
I look forward to meeting you and I hope you love the typically French, quaint village locations and all they have to offer, as much as I do.
A bientôt, Louise.
