This recently-built cozy cottage in the woods (construction completed in June 2017) is perfect for a couple seeking a romantic getaway, enjoying a honeymoon, or celebrating an anniversary. (The sofa is a full-sized futon if others plan to share the 400+ sq. ft. space.) Located just off the 16th green of Pomme de Terre's Shadow Lake Golf Course (open year-round, weather permitting) about a mile from the NW shores of beautiful Pomme de Terre Lake, and about 6 miles south of Lucas Oil Speedway.
A peaceful and soothing blue & white theme welcomes you in and invites you to make yourself comfortable. The eclectic mix of furniture and decor adds to the homey feel of the cottage, while abundant windows flood the space with natural light. At night, switch on the mini white lights in the corner trees for romantic ambiance. Bedroom is furnished with a charming full-size canopy bed, and has an extra large window looking out into the wooded area behind the cottage. Linens are 100% cotton for your comfort. The space is climate-controlled by a high-efficiency (and very quiet) ThermoCore heating & air conditioning split unit. Kitchen is fully functional with microwave, refrigerator, invection cooking surface, toaster oven, steamer, and crock pot. There is also a small gas BBQ available for use outside. Coffee and tea station makes preparing those comfort beverages a pleasure. Conspicuously (but intentionally) missing is a TV, but an assortment of books, games, and puzzles is provided for the guests' enjoyment, and wi-fi is also available.
A fire pit is just around the side of the cottage and may be used by responsible guests.
Interaction with guests
Hosts live in the house on the adjoining lot, and are generally available to meet any needs that come up. Our desire is to provide a memorable and pleasant stay for you.
Other things to note
A few simple, but healthful, breakfast items will be awaiting your arrival. Check the fridge and counter for hard-boiled eggs, yogurt, fruit, muffins, sweet bread and such that can be enjoyed your first morning in the cottage. If you are staying multiple days and desire breakfast to be provided each morning, just speak with Paulette to arrange details.
A notebook filled with useful information about the area, restaurants, activities, etc., can be found on the lower shelf of the coffee table. Guests can locate a place to dine, find out where to rent a boat, learn about our golf course, read a little history, look at a map of the lake, check out the Lucas Oil Speedway schedule, and any number of other interesting things. Please replace this notebook before you depart.
Check-in and check-out times are flexible, depending on whether others are booked just prior to, or just after, your stay. If you would like an earlier check-in or a later check-out, just ask and we'll check the schedule! Happy to accommodate you if at all possible.
Be respectful of the property. Aside from normal cleaning (included in your rate, no additional charge), you are expected to leave it as nice for the next guest as it was for you.
While it is a lovely place for a walk, guests are not allowed on the golf course unless they are paying to play golf. According to the course owner, it is a liability issue. Thank you for being compliant.
While we provide free wi-fi via satellite, we do NOT have unlimited data, so please refrain from activities that suck it up in a hurry, like streaming movies, long FaceTime connections, and such. Checking e-mail, finding information, social media interaction, etc. should be fine.
We ARE out in the boonies, and our sewer system can be somewhat sensitive, so please no flushing of feminine hygiene products or anything else that might get stuck down the line.
Please bring your own personal towels for use at the lake, or ask Paulette for lake towels. The ones provided in the bathroom are for use in the cottage, and need to remain there. Thanks!
Also, there is no garbage disposal. Please be certain that food remains go into the trash, and not down the drain. Thank you!
I am a child of the living God, wife, mother (5 amazing grown children and 1 fun-loving step-daughter), Gramsie, friend, musician, song-writer, artist (of sorts) painter, decorator, crafter, gardener, cook, office manager, dog-owner, and many other things! My mother taught me to never settle for mediocrity, but to strive for excellence in all things, and to always leave a place better for my having been there. My father taught me to live a life of integrity and the value of wise investments. I am blessed beyond measure!
My husband (an avid golfer), and I were drawn to this area a few years ago, eventually bought property and built our home, which we moved into in June of 2015. I love creating peaceful, pleasant spaces, and find gratification in combining the beautiful with the functional.
The best part of my education came from traveling fairly extensively, to places like Russia, England, Ireland, France, Germany, Israel (and others) ~ Never part of a tour group, but just as a person exploring other regions. I'd rather get to know the local folks of a new place than stay in a 5-star hotel in the capital city. The rest of my education was filled in by earning a BA degree in psychology and sociology at the age of 57. I also obtained a Biblical Studies Certificate while at the university. Music has always been a part of my life, with guitar and dulcimer currently being my favorite instruments.
My goal is to live a life that honors the Father in all things (1 Corinthians 10:31). I have yet to reach that goal, but I strive every day! If I can somehow be a blessing to our guests, I am honored.
