Quiet country setting surrounded by forest and farmland, bordering on the Altberg Wildlife Sanctuary Nature Reserve. Lower level suite with private entrance includes one separate bedroom, one bed with room divider in the common space, plus a full bath, kitchen facilities, and living area. Once called the "United Nations of birds", we are just a short drive from public beaches, lakes, the Victoria Rail Trail, and Monck's Landing Golf Course (stay and play package available). Fabulous star-gazing!

The space
We are located at the end of a dead end, well-maintained, gravel road (3 km long). Inside the suite, you may hear some general, minimal household noise from our living area during the day (ie. footsteps) as the suite is located in a part of our family home. But outside, it's very quiet, except for maybe the birds at times! No cars, sirens, or horns. Our closest neighbour is about a half a kilometre away. Nature abounds here, and it is very private. We have walking trails through our woodlot, and a quiet country, gravel road to enjoy. Every season is beautiful in its own way at A "Peace" of Eden, with an abundance of greenery in summer, the stunning colours of fall, peaceful, sparkling white snow in winter, and the blossoms of spring. We are only about a 10 minute drive from two small villages where you can purchase just about anything you may need (until close to 9pm, after which we all enjoy the peace and quiet of the evening:))

Guest access
Guests may freely wander around our property. If you are interested in gardening, you will enjoy exploring Ross' flowers and vegetables. Fresh veggies are available to our guests in season. Let Ross know what you'd like and he'll gladly get you some! Our above ground pool is available to guests in season. The laundry room, which is just down a short hall, may be used by guests, and our extra stove is there as well should you wish to make your own meals. There is a small patio outside the back door of the suite, with a deck and BBQ closeby, for use by our guests. There is also a small fire pit for your enjoyment (unless a burn ban has been issued by our municipality -- wood is an extra cost).

Other things to note
Covid 19 update: *** Please note that as of April 1, we are only allowed again to accept bookings from those who “require housing”. This would mean that temporarily you have no place to live, or are unable to stay in your home for some reason. It would also include those who have come to this area to do essential work, and therefore need accommodation in this area. If you are in that position, you are welcome to send us an ENQUIRY, which we can then pre-approve for you. PLEASE DO NOT send reservation requests at this time. Sorry for this inconvenience. At a “Peace” of Eden, we want to keep you safe, as well as our family. We would ask that if you have any symptoms of Covid at the time of your stay, kindly refrain from coming here to visit. Please complete a self-screening for Covid before your arrival, and if necessary, check with Airbnb regarding cancellations due to the Covid situation. We will continue to have a very flexible cancellation policy, and are also going to keep 3 day windows between bookings for the present time, for your peace of mind. Do message us if you have any questions about Covid policies. Thanks for your understanding!

We are a pet friendly home. In order for your guest experience, and our host experience, to be positive, we would ask that you always keep your pet with you, unless you are using a crate in the suite. That way we are sure your pet is safe and happy! Our dog, with his tail wagging, will likely meet you when you arrive. If you're at all concerned about your pet's reaction to that meeting, let us know ahead of time and we can bring our dog inside our home until you are settled.

If you're here in the late spring, and plan to be outside a lot, it would be a good idea to bring bug spray and possibly a bug jacket. Those little critters can be fairly annoying during those few weeks! We have bug hats and coils for you to use, and have just set up a screen tent where you can sit without being pestered by the bugs. Also, one of our guests did find a tick on them after hiking. Tick awareness info is in our house manual should you need it when travelling in Ontario.

Just so you are aware, our road is maintained very efficiently, as it is a regular school bus route. However, in extreme winter snow squall or freezing rain weather, occasionally our road can be impassable until it is plowed and/or sanded. The road is usually cleared quickly, but depending on the severity of the storm, and how widespread it is, it can sometimes take until late morning or early afternoon for it all to be cleared up and usable again. Please be assured that this scenario hardly ever happens! We also have a few parking spaces available right at the start of the lane, which guests are welcome to use anytime they feel our lane might be a bit treacherous due to excessive snow, or thawing.

Our wifi is sufficient for our daily needs (banking, news, email, video conference calls), but you will likely find it slower than in urban areas. It can at times be somewhat unstable, depending on day of the week, weather, how many users are on, etc. Welcome to rural living:))

Since we have an unfenced above-ground pool, our listing says “unsuitable for children”. However we do enjoy having families with children visit, as long as they are aware of our pool situation and recognize the need to keep a close eye on their children. If you are comfortable with that, don’t hesitate to send us a request, which we will gladly accept! The pool does have removable steps as an added precautionary feature. A playpen, for little ones, is available upon request for a small extra fee.

We encourage prospective guests to carefully read the details and summary about our neighbourhood and space/location before booking to be sure this is the right place for you:)). We find it quiet and peaceful here, but a few guests have thought it a bit too remote for their comfort. We are about 10 minutes away from two villages, where you can have dinner out, purchase gas (only in the town of Norland), buy groceries, enjoy some small parks, rent a movie, or just pick up an ice cream cone. There are public libraries, churches, and variety stores. In Kinmount there is also a historic movie theatre open during the summer months. Larger towns are 30-45 minutes away from our property. Be sure to check out the websites for the Victoria Rail Trail, the Altberg Sanctuary, the Somerville Tract Forest, and the Queen Elizabeth 2 Wildlands Provincial Park, all within 5 - 20 minutes of A "Peace" of Eden!

I, Deborah, am a retired school teacher. My husband, Ross, is a minister in our local Baptist church. I love to go for walks down our country road, read and travel. Ross, in his spare time, can be found working in his huge organic garden, or wandering around our 250+ acre wood lot. We have 4 grown daughters and 10 beautiful grandchildren. We are looking forward to sharing the beauty of our spot in Ontario as hosts!
